A good string trimmer can have a lot of oomph, for sure!

An organization I help with their mechanical equipment did manage to wreck a nice strong Stihl string trimmer--ran it on regular gas (no oil) for several hours and seized it up. New cylinder and piston are available, but with regulations to ban gas-powered trimmers and blowers on the near horizon in our area, plus thoughtless users, it’s time to go battery for them.

We cut a deal on another vehicle for our fleet today.  Got a 2022 Pacifica mini van.  Came out of a rental fleet.  Is very clean and straight, and appears to have ALL of the options.  We are going to be at least a month figuring out all of the switches, buttons, and menu levels on that cursed touch screen.

 

Plan is to use it for car camping on longer trips, making it easier to travel with the dog.

  Put another 12 miles on my bike yesterday. So far I’ve ridden 70.48 miles (since spring and warmer weather started) with an average speed of around 11 mph.

I built a little exhaust for a coworker of Mrs. P.  He’s got himself a very clean original Ranger.  2.3L 5 speed.  It sounds pretty ok and was in his budget.

 

I told him of my under vehicle inspection, let him know a rear end oil change and a new gasket would be a good weekend project for him.  He’s learning to tinker.

It’s only a 5 digit odometer, so either 106,000 or just 06,000

Great suggestion.  I know he has a newer F150 for daily driving and winter use.  I imagine this gets parked all winter, but the oil is still a good idea.

@Mickwhitt   just came from the RETNA EYE GROUPE,  for my yearly check out , everything good. had eye injections , for spotting , and eye floaters , a very specific  look see , like the way every stage is , isolated , verified , and how things are going . very thorough , glad to be  going to this office , pete

What kind of injection is it that you've had Pete?  

I'm just on latanoprost eye drops for the glaucoma.  Not seeming to make any difference at all. Still struggle with floaters and cloudy vision in my left eye.

For several years now a few of us have been spending Memorial Day Weekend at Bear Brook State Park in Southern NH. 

There's a "regular" campground along with a couple remote sites. 

We stay at one of those. 

 

The park offers walking, hiking, back country bushwhacking, several fishing holes, horseback riding, and is a very well known destination for mountain biking and trail riding. 

 

The remote site we go to is around 7/10 of a mile ride from the parking lot. 

As some of you have seen in past photos we are SET UP when we camp. 

3 tents. One or two screen houses. A full cooking area. HUGE stack of firewood. Etc...

 

In past years we've used a canoe carrier given to us by @JCM and put alot of gear in the canoe to haul it. Challenging but usable. 

Then we tried using a home made furniture dolly. More usable. Less challenging. 

 

Last year we decided to experiment with building a bike trailer to haul our crap in. 

I can't breathe like I used to but I have a BUNCH of leg strength.  

 

So we took a hitch/ roof top luggage rack and u-bolted it to a bicycle trailer hitch and the same canoe carrier mentioned above. 

EXCELLENT!!

 

Only caviat was I maaaaayy have overloaded the carrier/trailer creation when packing OUT. 

 

This year we decided to do a similar project with a strength upgrade.  

The carrier is larger and lighter. 

The hitch bar I bent last year is being reused but well reinforced. 

 

Here's the beginning: 

 

Round bike hitch bar stuffed into a piece of square tubing. 3 holes drilled in the original locations of the round tube mounts. 

 

The square tubing will be u-bolted to the bottom of the carrier.

@Mickwhitt   looking over my recent eye status  as  compared  to your issue , not even close , yours sounds more like an allergy  related issue ,very common in the spring , mine was much more complex , my regular eye doctor , told me I needed a specialist  , with retina issues , he did not do that . on the other hand the very deep behind the eyes , pictures , exposed the issue . there is a multi step , exposure to the back of the eye , verifying the blood flow and reaction , or lack of  to effect retina . this precise correction has completely eliminated my issues . the facial eye cameras used , are incredible ,  even showing  microscopic  blood flow / control to the eye ,     https://www.healthgrades.com/physician/dr-nauman-chaudhry-ylksm  , this is the  doctor , very specific to eye issues . no more issues , pete

When i bought me the Subaru i found few minor issues, i knew when i buy it.

 

the last few day‘s i was able to solve them except... yeah except the Cruise control functionality.

ok not too bad for me but i want that all the gimmicks work as they should.

 

so today i investigated what‘s the issue.

 

firstly i again check all hoses and pipes - they be fine.

Than i checked the wires for scratches or shorts - here i found an issue on the Clutch Switch.

It want work. 

A quick lurking on the pedal seems all is fine.

When i pressed the clutch switch by fingers it does work with the pedal it won‘t.

 

a closer investigation ( it‘s a dang small area there) shows me a hole in the pedal where the switch shall be pressed.

it seems they have a small rubber dot, what gives the switch it‘s trigger.

 

i checked all my ressources and found a rubberpin from the old Astra, what was originally a distance spacer.

it fits in the hole and now the trigger acts like it should.

The final testdrive give me the sucess to that story.

 

now all is working as it should.

How are those spring shackles? They usually rot off in a couple of years. We stocked them at Napa and sold a pile of them.

Mom's Day Weekend. A little pine cone harvesting with the 953 and the Phil Bowling Memorial Trailer. Then 6 bags of garden soil. Honda is much happier with that gone out of the back .

Picked up a medium sized wood stove this morning. 

2002 model year. 

Has a blower to circulate hot air. 

Needs fire bricks replaced. Likely Trina will clean and repaint it too.  

 

This will be installed in the house so the BIG basement stove can be moved out to the new workshop.
