Pullstart 62,904 #5259 Posted January 8, 2023 Got up before the sun this morning and drove the school bus out of the frozen mud. The chains wrapped around the tires and through the wheels seemed to really pay off! 1 2
The Freightliner Guy 1,327 #5260 Posted January 8, 2023 Today I rode Ricky Bobby the 1983 atc110 over by my friends house and there’s still some snow so I slid to the right and my tire along with the piece the tire goes onto that goes on the shaft came out as one piece so supposably the axle spacer and nut fell off and I can’t find it so now I’m stranded
The Freightliner Guy 1,327 #5261 Posted January 8, 2023 Luckily i was able to put the tire back on and make it home safely and now i now that a cotter pin is necessary to have to stop the castle nut from coming off completely. Kollin

Pullstart 62,904 #5263 Posted January 9, 2023 My wife’s Uncle recently went through chemo radiation for brain cancer. He is still smart as a whip and in remission, but has lost much of his eyesight and hearing. He’s got a 42 and 43 Jeep, and a ‘55 CJ5 as well. He needs to be with someone most all times, and can’t drive. We’re going on a trail ride with the ‘55 today. It should be a good time!
SylvanLakeWH 25,585 #5264 Posted January 9, 2023 @Pullstart That is cool. Prayers for his continued recovery. Gonna need pics... And please... no 1

Pullstart 62,904 #5266 Posted January 9, 2023 There’s a pretty decent trail system about 20 minutes south of my place. He’s 30 minutes south east, with no direct path there. I did lots of map studying last night so we don’t get lost getting lost! 1
ohiofarmer 3,276 #5267 Posted January 9, 2023 (edited) I cracked open the disaster that is a Dana 80 rear axle. There are actually roller bearings loose when it fractured. I broke down five miles from home at a party yard and he loaded up the 3500 Diesel and brought me home. You can also see the bearing race over the place where the retention nut is supposed to be. The crappy clip meant to hold it on let the nut unwind. That thing got hot fellas and I ain't kiddin. Hopefully the infrastructure of the basic axle can be saved. Both axle hubs will be completely rebuilt. The other side is OK and shows the basic parts needed. Hub oil seal, inner bearing, outer bearing, and retention nut. I may have to buy a thread cutting die to chase the threads if the thread file dies not restore them. On edit:things are proceeding along and I have bought a needle scaler, all kinds of bearings and seals, drained the differential and it looks excellent. I used the hand held type thread chaser and a new axle nut is starting a bit. The regular two inch hex die is on its way. things are looking up, Edited January 12, 2023 by ohiofarmer 1

8ntruck 7,010 #5273 Posted January 9, 2023 (edited) @Pullstart maybe you should have gone bus shopping in the UP. That got 4WD busses up there..... Mrs. 8N says she realizes rutting season was recent, but does not think making bus ruts in the field was what rutting was all about.
