What did you do today?

Usual Thursday run over to my mates in Scotland. First job was to get my Santa Fe into his workshop and rear end up on car ramps. That was so we could change the rear propshaft doughnut. It was getting past it's sell by date and a bit stale. Rather like Squonks doughnuts he leaves in the Basement. Took us a couple of hours. Pig of a job and not one I could have done on my own.

After lunch we refitted the back body onto his ex-military 101. Followed that with the tilt frame and the new canvas tilt. Everything needs finally fastening down yet but it's starting to look something like it should.

Finally loaded the Santa Fe with some bags of logs.

No fun! Get well soon. How's the tastebuds?

Are you able to taste the soup?

Thanks!  So far it seems that my tastebuds have only been mildly affected. I was disappointed at how my coffee tasted yesterday so I'm sticking with tea for now.  The soup tasted great, especially since my wife likes to put lots of garlic in it.  When I woke up in the middle of the night with a really bad sore throat, I sipped some bourbon and it tasted wonderful, although it did burn as expected.  If I lose my ability to taste coffee, chocolate, or bourbon, I will be most unhappy... B)

money grab

Well yes and no.. the main focus is safety, and rightfully so because some people simply lack the skill to even change out a flat tire.

Yes it costs money but it's not too bad, somewhere between $25 to about $65 for a complete check up, excluding eventual repairs.

It is charcoal metallic Rustoleum. Almost the same as my gt14 wheels. These are painted with PPG Umbra grey metallic (Ford mustang color)

Zachman has decided after riding Skittles that he wants to paint his wheels on Blackbeard the same color…😎

I finally got the camp kitchen we used last week for our Thanksgiving dinner unloaded out of the truck and put away today.

As long as I had the shed open, I took the time to empty the gas tanks on the backpack blower, hand held blower, and trimmer and run them dry.

I swapped a sharp chain onto the chainsaw, cleaning the chain oil/sawdust muck out of the clutch area at the same time.  Spent a few minutes burning the gas out of the saw cutting up some downed limbs just over the property line that have been bugging me all summer.

That left a small pile of wood that will need to get moved to the wood pile.  Got to winterize the lake house this weekend.  I'll have a tractor and cart out for that so the wood will get moved then.

I’m glad they got to do some driving while you guys were here. I plan on painting Karen’s wheels the same color and maybe even the D. I like the color as it’s not plain and I think it’s a nice contrast to the red and black. Just my preference.

Thanks for the info. The Mustang color also looks delicious :P Very nice set of wheels.

Think I'm gonna do a similar color on the 512-D wheels once I get to restoring that.

Thank you. These were blank shells and I had the centers cut out of 3/8” steel plate. Kinda hefty too. I like the later model color combos 👍

Made an adapter to make an adapter :handgestures-thumbupright:  Making a coupler to mount an Eaton hydro to a D200 flex joint. Had to make a 3/4” down to 5/8 spindle to keep the center straight. Hairbrained idea but stay with me…….

I have been wondering if there are some industrial couplers that would replace the Wheel Horse part in this application.  LoveJoy is a brand that comes to mind.  If I remember correctly, thay are a modular system that allows you to mix and match parts to match the shaft sizes in the application.  The curve ball here is the splined input shaft on the pump.

This pump uses a 3/4” keyed shaft, not splines like the sunstrand. This Eaton transmission will have the axle tubes cut off of it and sealed up. The transmission will be turned sideways and a drive will be made off of the brake shaft. There is a powerking 3 speed and a Panzer tractor axle in the mix also. If I make this work, there will be a splined coupler for sale :laughing-rolling: There is a guy on Youtube that used a manual wheelhorse transmission this way in his home brewed tractor. I just won’t have to deal with a clutch as mine will be hydrostatic.

I've seen the video of the Horse transmitted homemade rig. Neat work.

It’s going in here. Going to stick out the side a little but won’t be too bad. I was going to wait till I got it mostly figured out to do a build thread as I don’t want to curse myself

Very nice. Any 'dish' in the center plates or just flat plate? They seem bigger than 12" diameter, are they 15" x 10"?

They are 15x10 with 3.5” backspace. The center plates are flat.

:text-yeahthat:  given the low speed, low load application, they should be fine.  Still, keep an eye on the lug nut holes and the ends of the welds for cracks after you start using them.

Observations and comments from someone who spent a 40 year engineering career in the steel wheel industry.

Appreciate it. I mig welded them in on the backside and had my son tig the rest of the way around. They are overkill compared to the factory wheels and i will never overwork them. 👍
