What did you do today?

Just about done harvesting from me little garden. Todays menu...25lbs of tomatoes to boil for a bit, drop in cold water, peal and chop up.

 

Onions, garlic, red & green bell peppers chopped up then sautéed.

 

Throw every thing in pots along with some dried basil & oregano from the garden. Add a few more spices and then let the whole concoction simmer for 5hrs while remembering to stir it every 15min.   

 

End results - A little over 10qts of spaghetti sauce. 

 

 

Perfected my recipe to my liking last year. Just a little sweet with bit of heat to put a damp sweat on your brow. Don't think I can go back to store bought.

Retrofitted my gutter cleaner extension tube from a craftsman blower for the Dewault cordless blower… works like a charm…no more cord!!! Two wraps of gorilla tape and the gasket is perfect…

I only put two plants in.  Usually we get way more than we need.

So far I've harvested exactly THREE ripe tomatoes.  Another is starting to ripen now. Chipmunk ate one.

 

The vines are loaded with "greenies" though.  I can't figure out what happened.  Maybe too hamn dot for them to ripen?  They got plenty of water during the drought, it's not that.  Does heat prevent the 'maters from ripening on the vine?

A little cool weather tends to kick them off I think. Still in the high 70's low 80's during the day here but 50's & 60's at night. My plants are done for the year. I took all the green ones off that were of size today & have them laying on a table on the front porch where they can get plenty of sun. They should be ripe by the end of the week.

I usually make green tomato parmesan.  Same recipe as eggplant parm subbing maters.

Dan, many years ago an Italian I worked with gave me a recipe for marinar sauce that we canned from out tomato 🍅 crop.  But she said to make it you really need one of the Italian  tomato presses.  
 

We bought one made out of Tim and it was interesting to use as it removed the juice and pulp from the skin and seeds.  It had a hand crank and you had to clean the screen after five or six tomatoes.  
 

But I have to say it made a great juice and sauce from the separation process.

 

This is a current type I saw on the internet.

Thanks Lane, I'm going to look into getting one of those. It would make life easier for some of my sauces.

Kids decided the wishbone was ripe for plunking apart last night.  They thought long and hard for their wishes.  I made sure their pinkies were far to the bottom so nobody had more or less leverage.  Then POP!

 

The center section landed across the table at my placemat!  

 

I happened to be viewing a round hood tractor on RedSquare.  Hmm….

My Grandmother had a metal one. Sauce time was quite the production. My mom and a couple of Aunt's were involved. They used a big sheet to catch the grindings out of the press over a double sink. Looked like this one but old!

nORMSTER, if you have these over at your side of the lake, they make swapping weighted/filled tire/wheel assemblies a snap. Jack up the tractor, roll the dolly underneath the tire and set the tire back down just so it rests on the plate. Undo the lugs and roll away.

Fixing up Norman’s front end today… tires and alignment job found loose ball joints.  They told me lowers, but it ended up being uppers.  Then, the new replacements were .006” slop fit.  No go.

Started on the second section of the garden fence renewal this afternoon.

 

 

Removing the first old post didn't go quite to plan. See Bumps and bruises. Managed to get two posts and two panels in place before rain stopped play.

  Got the fencing finished today without any further mishaps. Section on the left is lower due to the ground sloping down to the left.

  BTW. The two posts at the ends are true vertically. Who said the camera can't lie?

Ground/cut all the “Panzer” off this rear axle. Drums and the rest of the brake parts were trash. I believe it is a 1937 Dodge truck rear end. I can only find two things online that identity it with that year. Not sure but it rotates nice and smooth.  What to do with it…….. 😁

Last weekend when we got home from our trip to Ky., Irked the truck with the travel trailer still attached.  When I went to start it up to move the trailer to its parking place, the truck would not crank.  Jumped it from our Jeep and it kicked right over.  Couple days later, I drove the truck into town to walk the dog and stop at the post office.  The truck almost did not start at the post office.  Put a battery charger on it that afternoon.  Next morning, I checked the volt me get before starting - 10 volts - not good.

 

$180 later this morning and I'm back in business.  7 year old truck with 97,000 miles on the original battery.  Guess I can't complain too much.

 

Took the truck on a road trip to visit @Pullstart today.   We cut a deal on an equalizer hitch that was in his way, but I have a use for.  We traded a few stories and generally had a good discussion.
