Not sure what they used in the bugs, but my '87 Golf has the Bosch K-Jetronic... which works great and is reliable when you don't let it sit for 20 years! Performs well too, lots of 9xx series Porsches and Mercedes running it also.
OldWorkHorse 3,045 #4178 Posted May 26, 2022 (edited) Well awhile back @ebinmaine gave me one of his old tow behind trailers. It was old big and pretty solid. He had put a pulley system on it to crank it up and dump heavy things. Well I used it this summer to move loads of sand and it worked great. But I wanted to re do it and upgrade it. It originally came with a crank winch so put a 2500lb electric one on it instead and added some pulleys to the boom to allow the cable to roll nicly and help when the dump body was lowering. It use to bind up and would have to be almost pushed back down so I also added a tension spring to pull the boom back to its stock position allowing the dump body to lower under its own weight. And a spring latch to lock the body down, it will be on a pull cord to unlatch it from the tractor. Trailer will also have a quick disconnect power supply for easy on and off. Will soon be painted to match my 314-8 that it will be used behind. Edited May 26, 2022 by OldWorkHorse 5
Horse Newbie 7,069 #4179 Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) So today I had a flat at work… stopped on an exit ramp on I-85 South to use my laptop and phone… went to pull off, felt a wobble… strange… tire was fine when I pulled over. Must have picked something up on the apron to the right of the white line… right rear… roll back came, took me to in-house auto shop, new tire, good to go… Hour or so later… I was headed down an entrance ramp I-85 South… uh-oh, trouble ahead ! All 4 lanes were occupied, and I had already committed to getting on the interstate.( I’m not one of those who creep along and then have to slam on brakes at the end of the ramp because I have not built up enough speed to merge). Debri in the road and no empty lane, or time to take evasive action. I drove over the debri… flat number 2 for the day… I decided to wait behind the retaining wall while the rollback was on its way… The traffic was so bad the rollback driver dropped his bed, I drove on, he throws on two chains and I rode shotgun to the next exit where it was a little safer to strap her down good… IMG_1153.MOV Edited May 27, 2022 by Horse Newbie 1
Ifixoldjunk 778 #4180 Posted May 28, 2022 Finally got some light cutting done with the old 020, seems to run amazingly. Has some light scoring on the piston. Doesn’t seem to bother it so I’ll pretend I didn’t see it😎 Besides, I always make my two stroke mixes as close as mosquito killer as I can. The extra oil should make up for any wear and tear😅

I took it apart to see what type spring it has so I could order one and placed an order for the pump and cylinder kit with spring from Wheel Horse Parts and More. I received the pump and cylinder rebuild kits and new spring today. I had surgery yesterday to remove a precancerous spot from the top of my head so I didn't fell like doing much more than taking the parts to the shop. 3

Mickwhitt 4,624 #4183 Posted May 28, 2022 Changed the vertical stack to a shorter silencer which is much quieter. Went out with the trailer to plant some oak saplings. Managed to get Sandra driving, she was not keen at first but settled into it. you can see the new short stack. Also did a bit of scraping, clearing an area of bracken to plant a flower meadow mix. The bracken grows 7 foot tall and is a pain in the neck, only way to kill it is to keep plowing it. 6
Mickwhitt 4,624 #4184 Posted May 28, 2022 The fixed link in the plow control allowed me to dig in with the little dozer blade. It's not the best blade and I will make a new one in due course. But it did the job OK. 7

ClassicTractorProfessor 5,314 #4190 Posted May 29, 2022 Spent most of the day working on setting up my work truck...this thing has been quite the project, but I think we are on the downhill slope now. Shortly after I bought the truck, I worked out a deal with a to purchase a friend of mine's Hobart welder/generator from his widow after he passed. The machine had been sitting several years, and after getting it on to the truck, we got it running only to discover it wouldn't weld. Ended up it was going to cost more than the machine was worth to fix it, so she took it back and I was left hunting for another machine. Thought about buying a new one but I don't use one enough to justify the cost. Last weekend I was helping Dad build fence at my sisters new house and the subject of the welder came up. He decided he no longer needed the Miller AEAD-200LE that Grandpa bought brand new in 1979, so I purchased it from him. It came already on a trailer, but a welding trailer is an inconvenience to me, so we spent the day taking everything off this trailer and moving it over to the pickup. Still have some work to do tomorrow, will get pics of the truck when I'm done. Then this evening I helped Dad unload his old boat and move everything over to the new one he bought today, that way the old Ranger can come home with me, as I bought it in a package deal with the Miller welder. Here is a couple pics of the 1978 Ranger we bought And here is Dad and Grandpa picking up his new one at Bass Pro in OKC this afternoon 4
OldWorkHorse 3,045 #4191 Posted May 29, 2022 (edited) Worked a little bit more on the powered dump cart today. Call it "operation 10ft paint job", and it was a great success! From 10ft away this thing looks mint 👌. Still have a lot more paint to do rims bed touch ups and got to run wiring and weld up some rear tail light mounts but she's coming along! Hope everyone enjoys there holiday weekend! Edited May 29, 2022 by OldWorkHorse 7
