That isn't the stock 1500cc engine setup, is it? I've not seen dual carbs before. VW switched to fuel injection at some point, I know. 1

VW switched to fuel injection at some point, I know. Don: Initially, VW’s 1,200cc engines were limited to 40 horsepower, however, as their displacement grew. After going through 1,300cc and 1,500cc model changes at the same time between 1960 and 1963, VW ended production of its 1,400cc dual port design with a 60 horsepower rating, that lasted throughout those period of manufacture. I think this VW is about 52 HP.

8ntruck 7,015 #4111 Posted May 12, 2022 I had a '73 Spitfire 1500 that would top out at about 83. Never found a speeding semi to see how much better it would do with a draft.

This was in the late 70's when speed mattered more than fuel costs to a lot of drivers. VW had a 10 gallon tank and gas was about 40¢ but I was still trying for maximum economy. Diesel was less then. I'm sure I p****d off the semi drivers by following so closely but, I repeat, young and thoughtless and lucky.

Used to do a 10-12 mile circuit about 4 times a week, till I hit a bump going downhill at full speed and did a bounce & roll last November. I've been ready to get back on it for a while but the weather hasn't been very cooperative when I wasn't too busy. Will be out again soon. I think I'll ease back into it though.... 1

davem1111 2,030 #4121 Posted May 16, 2022 This was my project today. Bought the materials last week, but was working on tractors so the grass didn't get ahead of me. This was a rebuild of a trellis I built about 10 years ago - the lattice had gotten cracked in many places and the wood was dingy and some was rotten. Wife and I love to sit on our "Veranda" behind this. Hot tub is back in there too. Flowers already coming up in front, got yelled at several times when I almost stepped in them. This one should last at least 10 years but we'll probably have moved before that.... 2

Don Sounds like you are smarter than I am when it comes to the bike. I ran a phillips bit into my finger just today. Next to the thumb the jack stand came down on. Not to be confused with the thumb that was bleeding a few days ago - that's the other one.

But yeah, I was drilling some holes in some metal for the bumper of one of my machines... the bit broke, and went into the joint nearest the tip of my thumb. I pulled it out, bled everywhere... and ended up going to the doctor the next day... They said that it wasn't broken... but the joint is really messed-up... I am still having a good bit of trouble with it... have no strength in it... cannot bend it all the way in... very bad pain when it gets hit or moved side to side. Had about 1200 miles on it when I got it, now it's a bit over 25,000. But I don't commute to a job any more so I'm not putting nearly as many miles on it per year. Love the bike though. Next weekend should be bike maintenance, I think.
