Spent some time clearing the dooryard and walkways. 

Trina plowed with her go-to 867 Pigpen. 

 

 

After that she put together a garden cart for hauling wood and whatever else...

It amazes me that most people DO NOT know how to pick an opening, match speed, and slide into it when merging onto a freeway!  They seem to expect established traffic to move over and make room.

 

Or is this a product of the wimpy 4 cylinder engines we are driving now?

Most people don't know how to drive those little four cylinders. You work them like a light switch all the way on or off there is nothing in between.

Yup, they don't have that low end grunt the V 8's do.

 

We were driving our 4 cyl. Jeep Cherokee today.  That does not respond until you get it wound up somewhere between 3 and 4000 rpm.  On one of my merges, it shifted into the next gear at about 6200.

IMHO... It's not a product of the machines. The vehicles on the road today (as a whole) even in the least powerful forms are vastly more capable of 0-60 acceleration than anything that's been made since the mid 70s. 

The issue is the mindset.

I drove a 1981 Toyota Hi-Lux 4x4 Pick Up for 16 years, and it was my only mode of transport. 
 

And like @Lee1977 said, it was either all or nothing. ( I think he has a 1st Gen Toyota truck like it now ).

 

When I merged onto a freeway it was pedal to the floor when I started at the top of the entrance ramp. And I DID NOT let up. ( Oversized tires did not help )

 

Most times when other drivers would see me giving it all she had, they would make a spot for me.

 

If they didn’t, I simply used the shoulder until I was up to speed or someone realized “ He’s going for it ! “

The absolute worst thing to do was slam on the brakes because now you are at the end of the ramp, with no built up speed.

It has nothing to do with the HP of the vehicle.      It is the the mind set of  todays drivers.  May be a result of " no fault insurance".   To them, the YIELD sign at the end of the ramp means all traffic will yield to them.

 

I have seen drivers coming down the on ramp and never look at the traffic they are entering.     I do not move over for these @@s holes.    

 

BTW, I will do everything, speed up, slow down, move over, to help a truck driver enter traffic.         I can't tell you how many times I have stopped traffic to help a truck  driver get in or out of a side street  to Horns Feed Mill in Red lLion.     This was nearly a daily event when I was traveling to and from work.

The difference between my 80 Toyota and your 81 is gearing. Yours differential is geared 3.90 mine is 4.375.  Mine came in the country as a cab chassis it never had a catalytic converter, the pickup bed was installed at Long Beach, California.

I think my bed was installed in the states also… have heard if you had one tailgate handle in the middle the bed was put on in USA, if you had the latches on each side the bed came from Japan.

Mine has two latches may have been made in Japan. The ID number says cab chassis ( the last letter is a W ) It also has a sticker on the left front of the bed between the cab that says Long Beach ,California.

I don’t know… I guess 1981 must have been the first year for the catalytic converter. And the beds I’m not sure of either. I’m am glad I have the one handle in the middle, even though it’s not that big of a deal.

Well, I got my antique Eskimo ice auger cleaned up some and running good.

 

all I had to put into it was some PB blaster to free the stick piston and a primer button and hose. 
 

I guess I’m gonna put it up for sale for $200 or trade for a vintage chainsaw. I have a soft spot for antiques but I can’t really justify keeping the auger around with the space it takes up. Will never use it either.

We've been in Kansas City for the past few days.  The high school robotics team had another meet.  Both the varsity and junior varsity teams completed at this meet.

 

The varsity team ended up being in the #2 seeded alliance.  We met the #1 seated alliance in the finals.  Didn't win, though.  Forced the #1 seed into a third tie breaker match.  Only lost that one by 12 points.  Made the lead alliance work for their win.

 

The varsity team also won the Quality in Engineering award.

 

This was the first outing for the JV team.  They ended up being ranked 11th out of 28 teams and were picked for the #4 alliance.  They met the #1 alliance in the quarterfinals and were eliminated.  Not bad for a first ever outing.

 

In 2 weeks, the local high school will be hosting a robotics meet.  Both teams will be competing.  We hope to do well in that meet, too.

Had big plans today to pull the engine off the C81 we brought home a couple weeks ago. But decided this morning to get the new mower out of the barn and make sure it would start before it comes time to mow. Walked in the barn and discovered a bunch of wood we had salvaged and had stored in the rafters was about to come crashing down due to the weight. So my plan then became get some of the weight off the rafters. In the process I found some old posts we had salvaged last summer, and decided they would work perfectly around the Case yard art tractor. So I spent the day working on that project, needless to say the blown engine is still bolted in the C81 LOL

As I was blowing trimmings down the road I came across an owl that had been hit by a car.

Then I thought, “I have not heard our neighborhood owl hooting lately”…

 

Folks, I know you would never do it, but please don’t throw litter on the road.

Picked a bimini boat top for $10 at the auction yesterday.      I had no idea what size it was, but at $10 it was a gimmi for a new in the box bimini.

Put it together today.

 

 

Turns out it is the exact size I need for the new crabbing boat I am restoring.
