Went the whole 9 yards this time.  Cleaner/Degreaser, Metal Prep, two coats of POR-15.  In the past I've just wire brushed and done one coat of POR which lasts about 2 years or so.  We'll see if doing the whole job as POR recommends will result in a longer lasting finish.  Somehow I don't think so.  No matter what, that finish is going to get sand-blasted off...

 

 

I might try some epoxy paint next time.  SPI has some good looking stuff for auto frames (restorers LOVE that stuff!).

   Been marshalling on a car rally. All stages on an old W2 air field. Windy, cold and for the most part wet. Though the club we were marshalling for do look after people.

   Free bacon roll and coffee in the morning. Soup, roll and coffee at lunch time. Finally after the finish, a very nice roast beef dinner.

We took a long drive today.  Started in our Missouri location, and ended up 14 hours in our primary Michigan location.

 

690 miles on the Ram 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi.  22.5 mpg overall.  About 100 miles from home, it was registering 22.9 mpg.

Still alive out here! Been super busy, new multifaceted role at work has me staying later there, helping mrs with yard sale stuff to liquidate last couple of weeks, printing orders etc. In spare moments between, and now trying to slip some deck pressure washing in in the evenings. This is the first eve ive sat down before dark in a while. Loving the Hummer, washed it yeaterday..then it rained lol,

I noticed that the neighbor has two garden tractor snow blades clamped to the top of the box blade on the Massey Harris he uses to grade the road.  Turns out that he is planning on using the two blades to make a V plow for his four wheeler. He is planning on using that to plow a path out to his ice fishing place on the lake this winter.

 

I asked him if he had any plans for the hitch parts of the blades.  He said no.  I said good, as one of the hitches looks like it is close to fitting in the rear Tach-A-Matic, and would be a good start on a belly blade for one of my tractors.  Will have to do some measuring.

 

The pasties in the ove smell about done - it's dinner time!

I've processed that thought as well. 

When plowing to one side or the other (which is most of the time) I can only grab about 1/2 a plows width, so to speak. 

So my thought was to make up a V with (2) 42" plows and I'd always have one pointed the right way. 

 

Only issue is I do use a straight facing blade on occasion when pushing the bank forward to make space. 

I could either just get used to the angle or have another plow handy to do that.

Most of the snow blades I've seen are 15-16" high. Belly grader blades are only 6-8" high. Might make attaching a snow frame to a belly grader blade a bit tricky!

You can get a blade shrinker.

One of the blades has a hitch of about the same proportions as a belly blade hitch that attaches to the rear axle.  The blade pivot on the hitch looks kind of tall though.

 

Figuring out the blade is the next thing.  Lots of options - a slice of large diameter pipe, a cut down front blade, a piece of 3/16 plate with multiple shallow blends to make a curve. The cutting edge is easy - a piece of 1/4 X 1 1/2  4140 pre hard, drilled to bolt up to the rest of the blade.

Pulled the Perkins 3.152L diesel out of the roller frame tonight.  One step closer to indoor storage for the new camper.

 

What will I do with such an engine you ask?  I’ve no clue, but it was a great deal at an estate sale!

  Yesterday helped my mate remove the back body off his ex-military 101 Land Rover. All by hand as no lifting gear. Just thought and ingenuity. The nuts bolts did take some undoing after something like 46yrs and a thick coating of underseal.

  Today cleaned out the house gutters of leaves and swept the yard, paths etc. Going to be a regular job for the next month or so. Wouldn't mind so much, but they're next doors tree's the leaves come off.

Ah, an IH Cub Cadet dozer/snow blade! They are really built strong and the mechanisms for the pivot and the spring lock are quite clever. I got one last year that I'm planning to repurpose.
