Pollack Pete 2,273 #1 Posted April 27, 2020 .Looking through my bone yard yesterday,most any Horse that sill has a mower deck on it,the decks are mostly rotted.A lot of people here seem to have rotted or repaired decks also.People have called me looking for a good mower deck.I don't have any spares to sell.Quick question.Has anyone ever built a fabricated mower deck for a Wheel Horse?I have an old Case tractor that has a fabricated deck.It looks like it's built out of about 3/16 in. steel plates.Looks like it will last forever.Just wondering. pacer 3,168 #3 Posted April 27, 2020 Not on a horse deck (they are rather bad about rotting!) but ive got a MF1650 with 48" deck that I picked up that somebody shop/home made. That thing is built like a tank. Like yours it appears to be 3/16 steel plate and some really nice work. But, geez, changing that thing in/out is ---- whew, a booger. The only prob with it is the front scalper wheels - well actually MF used skids and they wore out quickly and were pitiful to start with - I was adding more conventional wheels and had to pull the deck several time to get them all aligned, etc -- like I said that thing is HEAVY! Oh yeah...….heavy as hell.But built to last.Seems like the stamped steel Wheel Horse decks are a definite achiles heel.Keep them clean.....keep them painted......keep them dry when put away......Repeat.They'll never outlive the tractor.Unfortunately. daveoman1966 3,745 #5 Posted April 28, 2020 I have a 1972 Bronco 14 with Tach-o-Matic upgrade to accept a 48" deck from a newer model year. Back in 1994 or 95, I made a cardboard template of the deck shell, than used that template to cut out a STAINLESS STEEL liner for the shell. Worked at a tool shop at the time and had one of the welders tig-weld the front 'apron' to the flat shape I had cut out myself. After a little bit of trimming, installed the lift hardware and 3 spindles. Took it home for a 'test' run and works near perfectly.. IT WILL NEVER RUST OUT.....NEVER . I still use the same mower deck today...Stainless sheet cost me 30-40 bux. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
