cleat 6,034 #29 Posted May 21, 2022 No updates on the 312 but I finally got the Mustang out of storage and moved it into the shop. The 312, Mustang and F150 are all basking in their red goodness.
Wheelhorse#1 1,666 #30 Posted May 21, 2022 I don't know if its just the picture but all three in red ,match up pretty darn close .Nice work on the twackter !
cleat 6,034 #31 Posted May 26, 2022 New seat installed. I have one set of arm rests still here but I was thinking they should go on my last 520 that also needs a new seat. 1
cleat 6,034 #32 Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) Well, I sat on my new seat and drove around the shop (it's raining outside). Was a great feeling and very comfy. However, I found the gauges hard to see so I added these angle rings. These are made by Autometer part number 2234 Much better now. I put a digital voltmeter on my 310-8, pretty much for the same reason. Numbers show up better than standing on my head to see where a needle hovers... Your solution is great! cleat 6,034 #34 Posted June 13, 2022 Hood bolted on. No decals, hood latches, lights etc yet. 8
cleat 6,034 #35 Posted June 13, 2022 (edited) Installed and wired headlights. Mark below headlights on inside is just a bit of dirt that is now wiped clean. Edited June 13, 2022 by cleat
Jeff-C175 7,202 #36 Posted June 13, 2022 (edited) Wow! Don't see one of these every day... uhhhh... or even every DECADE! Bet that's a fun ride Cleat! Is that a Cosworth ? Edited June 13, 2022 by Jeff-C175
cleat 6,034 #37 Posted June 13, 2022 Not a Cosworth. It has the 2.9 V6 and 4 speed auto with overdrive. Below is a pic of my toys. 2020 F150 1986 Mustang GT convertible 1985 Sierra 2

And I thought all the RS Sierra's were Cosworth. Here they called the same car the Merkur XR4 ( i , or Ti depending on drivetrain) Still, that V6 got some ponies, not as many as the Cosworth of course... Your car seems to be somewhat of an anomaly for a number of reasons though. It's all original ?
cleat 6,034 #39 Posted June 14, 2022 No, not original. Car has been totally rebuilt and modified. Came with a 4 cyl turbo with a 3 speed auto. Engine and transmission are from a Scorpio. Wheels and interior are from my old 87 XR4Ti. These pics were taken of my car at a local car show last year. The old (58 I believe) Pontiac beside me is a friends car. 2 2

cleat 6,034 #41 Posted June 14, 2022 Mustang and truck are all original. I get all of my car related modding fixes from the Sierra. Now, most of my garage time is actually tinkering on my Wheel Horses. 3
cleat 6,034 #42 Posted June 14, 2022 Decals installed. Many thanks to Terry for the great decals, they are perfect as always. This 312 now sports the maroon decals that I am converting all of my wheel horses to. Headlight bezels installed. These are the originals with a coat of paint. Just about done.

cleat 6,034 #46 Posted November 12, 2022 Swapped seat plate to the older style as I like it better and it works better with the lift cylinder to lift the seat without jamming it into the steering wheel. This is how it was. This is how it is now. Minor detail but it makes me happy. 3
Damien Walker 246 #47 Posted May 9, 2023 That's another beautiful restoration. I'm really going to have to start another soon! As for the Sierra...I have a happy memory of briefly driving a V6 4x4 many years ago. Amazing car with amazing traction. Interesting that you said 2.9L....they were officially 2.8 over here, is yours bored out? (In case you don't know: UK Ford made a previous 3.0 V6 named 'Essex' after the county it was built in but the 2.8 was German and named 'Cologne' for a similar reason! I presume both engines were derived from a US original).
cleat 6,034 #48 Posted May 9, 2023 The 2.9 Cologne is simply a later model of the 2.8 Mine is a 1988 model, I am not sure when the transition was or what changed to get the slightly larger displacement. The 2.9 has multiport fuel injection, I believe the 2.8 was carb'd. Car will not win races but it runs very well and has a nice flat torque curve making it very easy to drive. Damien Walker 246 #49 Posted May 9, 2023 I don't ever recall seeing any references to Sierra/Capri 2.9 over here but the Sierra and Capri 2.8s were definitely fuel injected. I'm guessing we might be seeing a difference due to marketing geography but by 1988 I was getting into ex-Buick Rover V8 territory so I may have missed something! Either way, the V6 Sierra was a superb car and particularly in 4 wd.
cleat 6,034 #50 Posted May 10, 2023 The 2.9 with the 4 speed automatic overdrive in mine actually came from a 1988 Scorpio but was a direct bolt in except for a rewire and shorter driveshaft. Original engine in my 1985 Sierra was a 2.3l 4 cyl turbo with a 3 speed automatic. Car had 300,000 km on it so original drivetrain was weak. I also used the rear differential from the scorpio as it was in better shape and has more gear reduction.
