cleat 5,809 #1 Posted April 26, 2020 I have had this tractor sitting here for a couple of years and decided to give it some love. It is a low hour machine that runs well but needed some sprucing up. Wire harness is cleaned up and is modified to add a fuel gauge, move the hour meter, and is foot pedal friendly now. 5
cleat 5,809 #2 Posted April 26, 2020 Engine is in great shape but showed some signs of head gasket leaking so I popped the head off and cleaned things up. Valves were lapped and then it was buttoned back up. Head gasket leak was just due to loose head bolts. 3

cleat 5,809 #8 Posted April 26, 2020 New front tires and wheel bearings installed. Machine is finally a roller again.. Many thanks to Terry for the great decals. Once the hood and fender get painted the maroon decals will get installed. I have Matt's foot control sitting at my US address in Ogdensburg NY. Unfortunately the border is closed so I cannot get to it. Machine will not have much more done to it until the border re-opens. Fortunately I have a few extra 520's kicking around so no worries. 3

cleat 5,809 #10 Posted April 29, 2022 (edited) Been a long time but finally back at it. Was able to cross the border and pick up Matt's foot control and installed it. Also picked up and installed the heavy duty front fender bracket and the proper cover plate. Bracket is still loose as I will fit to fender before tightening. Last of the decals installed that I can for now. Hood and fender are out getting painted. Edited April 29, 2022 by cleat 2
c-series don 8,663 #11 Posted April 29, 2022 @cleat You started this thread buy saying you were going to spruce it up. If that’s the case I’d like to see you do a full blown restoration!!! As I said earlier in this conversation I love your attention to detail, not to mention the quality of your work. Can’t wait to see it all finished!
cleat 5,809 #12 Posted April 29, 2022 Took it outside and topped up the hydro oil. Also fine tuned the carb. I think she is enjoying the sun although she is still quite naked. 3

What did you do for the neutral interlock switch? (probably the wrong name, but the one that doesn't let you start the engine unless the motion lever is in neutral). You did an excellent job on this, my 312h is jeolous!

BTW… Awesome work ! Edited April 30, 2022 by Horse Newbie
Moparfanforever 844 #15 Posted April 30, 2022 The "heavy-duty front fender bracket ", is that something you bought?? I have a 312H I need to do a frame swap on and would like some info on it.

You did an excellent job on this, my 312h is jeolous! I have Matt's pedals in 6 machines now and they all have the neutral safety switch totally deleted from the circuits. I pull the harness out and rewire to my satisfaction. With Matt's kit the tractor is always in neutral unless you are pushing the pedal ahead or back. You might notice the 520 sourced fuel gauge as well.

Tractor had an hour meter but I needed the space for the fuel gauge and had that little one here so I made that little bracket to hold it.

Yep, bracket and cover plate were from a 520 (bought both online). Just had to cut the slot for the parking brake lever. I figure it will help with the longevity of the tunnel mount that seems to break on a lot of Wheel Horses. I have made all my machines use this type of park brake as I don't like the newer style as well.

So long as the left pedal is left in place, the neutral switch functionality is retained. Just push the pedal before starting, and the cam plate is centered and the switch will be depressed. Or at least that's how I have mine set up. The foot control still uses the same rocker and pushrod to the cam.
cleat 5,809 #22 Posted May 8, 2022 Pulled muffler and bead blasted and painted it. Smoked up a nice Brisket as well. 2
cleat 5,809 #23 Posted May 9, 2022 Painted muffler installed. I also assembled a spare front tach assembly that I beadblasted and installed bushings in the hood hinges and installed a new latch. 1
