Absolutely wont be using this deck until it’s repaired.  However, it gave me an excuse to go buy another used deck!

I was hoping to get some painting done this weekend, but it's hard to paint with 30 mph wind gusts. Had to push mow 3.5 acres yesterday. I really need to get this going soon!

whoa - that can take some time

we bought our house from a widow -  not long after her husband passed a guy cut her grass with a push mower (before he got a riding mower) and she said it took him around 6 or 8 hours ? ... around 3 acres ...

I'm hoping someone can help me with a part I need. My idler bar does not use the plastic blocks and backer bar. It instead has two plastic flanged bushings that a bolt passes through and a plastic washer under the nut. This does not match the parts picture for the deck called out for my 1976 C-120. There is not I.D. sticker on my deck, so I'm not exactly sure which one it is. It looks like it never had this style of block since there are no holes for them in the deck.

One of them is worn through. Does someone know a part number for these and which model deck they were used on? At least this may help me identify the deck model.

One of our vendors “Wheelhorse Parts and More” Had the plastic bushings you need.  Also I put the largest diameter wheel Zi could fit on my 312-8s deck and it certainly helped on Cutting height.

from your description and picture - good chance the washers are following part numbers :

    107674   spacer / bushing

    107675   washer

two of each are installed ( 4 total )

( 107674 spacer / bushing is typically the part that will wear )

my 42" RD deck (pictured below) uses them ;  my deck model number is 1542RC02

( note:  deck idler bar spring is covered by a section of bicycle inner tube )

Thank you. Why the inner tube on the spring?

Does anyone know of a source for the spindle housings this one has? One of them is pretty ate up with corrosion.

Do the pulleys have a KEYWAY slot for a woodruff key?  If the shaft diameter is 3/4", the answer is YES.  In that case, I have good used COMPLETE spindle housing on Ebay.  If the shaft is ojnly 5/8" dia, I don't have a replacement.

My ebay item is # 133404416091

installed section of bicycle inner tube over the spring to dampen sound ... make it quieter ...

probably did little if anything

I noticed a little more noise from 42 RD deck compared to 42 and 48 SD decks - so I was looking for ways to reduce noise

the noise is not bad ... certainly not objectionable

Thanks Dave. Way over my budget I'm afraid. If it lets loose I may be in trouble again!

I finally got the deck painted and most of the loose bits. Somehow I missed the quadrant darn it!

I got the new guides for the idler bar, but I am thinking the bar may need replaced. The slotted holes are pretty worn out due to the guide being ate up. The replacement ones I see on line don't seem to match though. I only see one part # BAR-IDLER SUPPORT 106120 and it looks to be about 2" longer and the distance between the slotted holes is different. Not sure how this can work.

Here is the nice shiny deck. My wife is already telling me that I now need to paint the rest of the tractor, not happening!

I decided I needed to replace the idler bar, but all the replacements I found do not match my original. The replacements are about 2" longer and the hole centers don't match.

I said the heck with it and just made a new one myself. Still need to throw some paint on it.

Just a correction...  I don't believe Wheelhorse Parts and More has these bushings, somebody PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong.

Glenn Pettit DOES have them, he's another of our fine vendors here.

No they did not have them. I found them at another online source.

I had the day off today and thought I could finally get this deck back together. To my disappointment I found that one of my spindle shafts is bent. I figured I could get one of of my parts deck I have, but the shafts are not the same.

The deck I am putting back together has a shaft that is .75" in diameter and is keyed on the end for the pulley. My parts deck has shafts that are .666" in diameter where the bearings are, but .75" on the threaded end. Both are about the same length at 6.875".

I have no idea what model #  either one of these decks are since there are no I.D. labels on either one.

I thought I could maybe just swap out the bearings and the sleeve from one housing to the other. I was able to get the bearing out that is on the mounting side, but can not figure out how the bearing on the blade end comes out. I removed the snap ring but it is not budging. Is it supposed to come out the other end?

NO..  The blade-end bearing comes out that same end.  After removing the snap ring, use a 6" drift pin (socket entension) from the top end.  Let the end of the drift pin catch the edge of the bearing and tap it out...progressively all around the circumference of the bearing....little by lkittle.

After cleaning up the end of the housing that had the bent shaft with the key, I do not see a snap ring. Maybe they are not exactly the same. Not sure what would be holding that bearing in then. Both of the housings are 3.5" tall from the base plate.

One of my spindles made of the pot metal the snap ring groove had corroded away.  same corrosion held the bearing in place...Also remember WH used different bearings over the years.  Early ones were 3/4" ID later were 17mm ID (.6693")  Both were 40mm OD

3/4 are 62032rs

17mm are 6203rs

This is the top end of the housing I am working on. The bearing came right out just like Dave said it would. This one looks different than the other though. It looks like it is actually sitting under a lip and went in from the other side.

very good results using  LUCAS RED AND TACKY GREASE ON DECK SPINDLE ISSUES, with a 550 drop point , the grease will not run off the bearings , having rebuilt a couple of decks with  red and tacky on every contact friction point , they run with a total ease and very quiet . i also cut at the highest setting , and have rear discharge decks . pete
