I had one like that was so bad I finally got PO"d enough to pull the unit out and got to it on the bench and was able to get a good sized pipe wrench on it and ... it reluctantly let loose. Once loose itll screw out and you can help fix it maybe. What I did was took a 9/16 hex nut and brazed it on the end, that solved that! 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
daveoman1966 3,762 #3 Posted April 24, 2020 (edited) That valve probably hasn't been opened since the tractor's birthday...45+ years ago. Can you get a GOOD pair of vise grips on the shaft...close as possible to the base. That may be better than trying a flat screwdriver. oliver2-44 9,860 #7 Posted April 25, 2020 The Tow valve on my C160 was stuch like yours. I sprayed it with penetrant a few times a day for several days. Then I took a long very large flat blade screw driver that fit the notch and clamped vice grips to the screw driver. daveoman1966 3,762 #14 Posted May 1, 2020 Don't know if this'll work...but worth a try. Heat up the tow valve with a torch...not red hot...but just warm enough to melt some candle wax on it....and hot enough for that wax to get drawn into the threads of the valve. An old timer's trick, that MAY work...don't know. Here is a NEW tow valve, less the rubber O-ring. Yours is RUSTED at the threads...no doubt and that is tuff to overcome with the small leverage of the screwdriver slot.
