314 Hood Check (Chain)

Recommended Posts

I'm doing a major cleanup on my 1995. Should there be a hood chain that prevents the hood from flipping too far forward? Any thoughts of suitable attachment points? I also noticed the hinge pin is wearing thin but I can make a replacement.

Should not need a hood chain.  The pin that you talked about that is wearing thin that is like the hinge. Right beside that you should find another hole on each side of the frame. That is where you put another pin and when you rotate the hood forward it hits on it and stops to hood from going too far down.  I can’t remember what size the hole is.  I just got round stock at the hardware store, cut to length, then drilled tiny holes in each end for cotter keys.

Here is a picture the rod was missing on my 520 when I got it made one with a couple of cotter pin to hold it in place. Wong picture replace a worn hinge rod on this one. The rod behind it is the hood stop rod.
