Added a 2nd horse to my stable

Just picked up my 2nd wheel horse. It's a 417-A. It came with a 42" rear discharge deck, and 2 snowblowers. $600 for the whole package. Did I do ok?

You did well!  How many hours on the machine? Also, the GT1642 is one of my favorite machines as well.  Welcome to Redsquare!

Forgive me, my GT1642 is not in the most eye appealing condition but it was given to me by my father in law and was my first horse. It's currently out of commission with carburetor issues. And the 417A has 850 hours on it.

Anyone know why the transmission disengage lever on the 417 rattles like crazy when its engaged?

I suspect the linkage is worn and/or tension springs are getting weak.  My 520H rattles crazy, too, even with a new belt on it.

Am I missing part of the lever too?

Just a two-piece knob.  Half of mine is gone and when it goes, I think a bolt through it with a few nuts will be its replacement.

These knobs are available on Partstree.com if interested. I had to replace mine last year on my 418-A when I brought it into the stable.

Great tractor. I have a 418-A which is very similar. It is my work horse around here.

My transmission disengage lever rattles like crazy too.  I put a new belt on and it still does.  However, everything works as it should.  Mine has 2000 hours on a working meter.  I love the sound of the KT17 Kohler.  They seem to be pretty good engines if taken care of.  I do a lot of tilling with mine now that I got 2 520s with 60" decks to mow with.

I fixed my handle with a small bolt and two pieces of plastic tubing.

I have a 418-a that had a bouncing drive belt idler. I replaced the belt and it smoothed it right out.

Thanks fellas, I'm going to tear into it soon and see what I can find out. Also need a headlight bezel, a new headlight bulb, and I'm going to try to get the dummy lights working. Other than that she runs great. Fires on the first crank. Needs some paint work too though.

Anyone know why my 417 A would be missing the PTO clutch pad? Will it hurt to not have one?
