C_hasbeen 249 #1 Posted April 23, 2020 I bought this at an auction last year because it looked handy and only cost $8. I found it handy several times but don't know what it is called. 4
ebinmaine 67,268 #2 Posted April 23, 2020 That's a wicked interesting piece. Not sure I've seen anything like it.
Stepney 2,325 #3 Posted April 23, 2020 I had an old Vermette like that. I was told it was used in a railyard. Had a massive foot on it but otherwise looked identical.
Dan.gerous 2,696 #4 Posted April 23, 2020 I was thinking it might be a post puller or similar. 2

C_hasbeen 249 #6 Posted April 23, 2020 Well I can call it a railway jack for pulling posts. 1 1

Stormin 9,981 #8 Posted April 23, 2020 I'd go for an early version of high lift jack. Google Hi Lift Jack for the modern version. Farm Jack is another make. I've a Hi Lift that I used when off roading Land Rovers. Very handy but can be lethal if not used carefully. 3

Yeah had a few close calls with those jack's and land rovers, used to use them all the time when we lived in the Falklands. When your off road nothing else is good enough, could get yourself out of some pretty sticky situations.
WHX?? 48,770 #10 Posted April 24, 2020 (edited) Early day version of this . Off road rock crawlers often have them mounted on the hood of their Jeeps/Rovers to get them out of a bind. They can be very dangerous to use as they are not very stable even lifting just a little. Edited April 24, 2020 by WHX24
Stormin 9,981 #11 Posted April 24, 2020 They can be used for more than lifting. Fit a shackle to each end and you can use them like a winch.
