I was looking at the box last night from between the battery box and S/G and see that the bolts are tight, but the guts seem to move around quite a bit.

With any luck an adjustment will do the trick.

So I got the hole drilled and tapped, the block is cleaned up, now time to clean up the head!  You can tell by the head gasket marks that remain after some initial flat plate wet sanding... Yep, it’s warped!

OK   No problem,   just another opportunity for your daughters to learn a new skill.      :woohoo:

Rebel’s a runner!  He spits more fuel out the pump to carb line than any big block Kohler could consume!  I’ll work on fixing that issue next!

I could buy a new starter switch.  But I really want to see what’s making it fail.  Water and time look like they did a number.  I’ll clean this up, give it some dielectric grease and give ‘Er a whirl!

The carb is crazy sloppy, it’s surprising how well it does run.  I’ll see if I have another one in any tighter condition.  The throttle and choke butterflies have close to 3/16” play in every direction!

Thanks for taking apart that starter button and posting the  results. The one on Rusty (my 1054A) still seems to work good although it looks really rough.  Kudos on getting that motor running, yet another step closer to a “Mule”!!!

No problem Josh.  I was curious more than anything and even if I broke it trying to get it apart I was going to see the guts!

It’s amazing  what kind of abuse and neglect these things will take!  The engine had water in it and I flushed it a few times tonight with clean used oil and a splash of diesel before running for 5 minutes or so and draining one last time.  I topped it back off with non-detergent 30 Weight and a cup or so of Lucas oil additive.

Hi Kevin,

Nice work so far, love the name, it will always remind you of the lockdown and what we are all going through. Also that some things are just more important than this PITA virus :lol:

I am breaking quarantine every now and then to do community stuff, I might borrow your ninja outfit lol

I made a pick up of a GT-14 and a couple other things this morning.  The tractor is for a friend’s kids.  This was part of my package I picked up.  A set of 953 inside wheel weights!  I believe I need 4 more bolts and lug nuts to complete the set.  These bolt onto the inside of the 953 hub, then act as lug studs for the wheels.  To say I’m excited is an understatement!

@19richie66 @953 nut @Aldon

Can this fan gear steering setup from a GT-14 replace a Ross steering gear on a 953 as a bolt in swap?  Is it any stronger?

Super cool find there Kevin!  You went out of your way to help someone else and that “good karma” came back around already.  Dad is running a set on Clyde that I got years ago on a parts Gt-14.  They are awesome weights for sure.  Nice haul!

I believe you can run the fan gear instead but you may have to remove the ross mount and drill the holes for the pivot shaft. Can’t just run out and look at mine. Wrenched my leg .
