TimD 1 #1 Posted April 22, 2020 Hey everyone, I have an 310-8 that needs a new brake shaft seal. Anyone ever replace one? Also looking for a part number for it,not having much luck searching the webs. Thanks!
McGrew 460 #2 Posted April 23, 2020 Hi Tim, I just replaced the brake seal on my Raider 10. I am nor sure what transaxle your tractor uses, but the seal on mine was an SKF 7410. It is an easy job, but you need to be careful not to damage the new seal when sliding it over the shaft. Several members recommended using scotch tape to help getting the seal over the two flats on the shaft without damage. I can say it worked great for me! troutbum70 857 #3 Posted April 23, 2020 Changing out the seal is the easy part, getting the brake drum can be a whole other matter. Some slide right off, and some require a lot of effort to get off. I seem to have the tougher ones.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,094 #4 Posted April 23, 2020 If you go to the Transmission section there are some threads pinned at the top of the list. There are charts there to find aftermarket seals. Garry

c-series don 8,814 #6 Posted April 23, 2020 I just did one on my C-161. It was very simple, I guess I was one of the lucky ones because the drum slid right off. The seal popped out pretty easy, then I used a deep socket to tap the new seal in place.

Danny Rat's nope, that's the one I bought online but it's for a 3/4" shaft, the shaft on mine is 1"
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,094 #8 Posted June 22, 2021 You must have a 3 or 4 speed transmission to have a 1" brake shaft. # 2 chart. Garry
