414-8 brake problem

I have a 1989 414-8 where the brake pedal leans heavily towards the operator. I cant get the brake pedal to stand upright at the factory height. 

 

The problem is that if I continue to tighten the nut on the brake rod, the parking brake will not engage the bell crank ratchet. There is only about 1” left of thread on the brake rod and when I do tighten the nut all the way on the brake rod, the brake pedal is still leans towards the operator and I can’t engage the parking brake.

I have an oversize nut being used as a spacer before the actual nut to take up the slack on the threaded rod so that the parking brake can be engaged. Without using the spacer, I can’t engage the parking brake because the nut to tighten the brake band pulls the bell crank  to far rearward to engage the parking brake. I need the spacer in front of the nut to allow the parking brake to engage. Can one of the linkage rods be bent? I am stumped?

How do I get the brake pedal to its original position and still have the parking brake working?

Take a look at the front of the footrest where the pedal is. If it is bent down would the pedal rest on the footrest if it was bent back up?

Thank you for your reply but the footrest is not bent.

 

I stand corrected. Another member pfrederi was kind enough to send a picture of the area, and you are both correct. There was a slight bent in the left corner of the footrest, totally unnoticed, and when I bent that corner back to its original position, the brake pedal is now at the factory height.

This is a 310-8 but same  design.  Note the protrusion on the brake pedal shaft.  it just catches the corner of the foot rest to keep it upright.  You r may no be making contact.

 

Is this a new problem??

You are correct. The slight bend in the corner of the footrest was unnoticeable at first, but when corrected, the brake pedal is now at the proper height. Many thanks!
