Is that the plastic tank under the seat?

If so you twist, pull pry the valve out. Then pry out the rubber bushing. Often times the bushing tears or crumbles leaving debris in the tank. You want the clean that before a refill. The new bushing is flexible and will go back in the tank  before you install the barbed shutoff fitting into the bushing. Not tough at all. Good luck.

To remove the old one I used a pair of vise-grips to hold it and gave a quick pull. The new bushing will need a little silicone or lithium spray to insert it and some more on the valve to help it go into the bushing. I used a piece of 1 X 4 pine resting on the transmission to pry the valve up into the bushing.

Yes it is the plastic tank, so from what I'm seeing all I do is pull the shutoff valve first than remove the bushing and replace with new one then replace the shutoff valve. As always you can count on this forum and the guys on it to come up with the fixes. Restoring a GT 1600 workhorse have most of it together filled tank starting leaking from the bushing must have lost seal when pulling the fuel line when I pulled the tank. Getting ready to paint the sheet metal tractor is looking good frame up resto can't wait to finish.

It’s a great idea (regardless of the leaking) as the shutoff also has a debris screen. After 30 plus years it’s probably time for a new one. Just swapped one out in a 310/8 I’m cleaning up for a friend.

Great timing I have the same problem!  Just putting back together my 416-8 that I've been working on.  Had it all apart to paint and fix brake, clutch sticking and PTO control , etc.  Put it back together put gas in and leaking just as noted in this thread.  Was fine last Fall but pulling tank to clean up must have done it.  Will order now.  Great forums!

I found the parts on ebay for $8.94 for both bushing and shutoff valve free shipping worked out great. Used a little lithium grease for reinstalling them.
