315-5 keeps blowing fuses

Recommended Posts

My 315-8 keeps blowing fuses.  The 10amp one in the middle.  I'm running the pro when this happens.  I wonder if it's the electric PTO.  I don't know what they had to change from Manuel to electric.  Pain in my ass when I don't have time to deal with it.

Electric PTO because those new OHV Commands don't have thrust bearings on the crankshaft like the old WH spec K and Magnum series Kohlers. Have you checked your clutch for friction material or the lack of?  Here's 2 pics from the OM fuse panel and wiring diagram.

Can you post your tractor's model and serial number?

They were wired a few different ways and would like to look at a wiring diagram.

In my experience, when a fuse blows...  it is very often caused by faulty ground somewhere in the electrical circuit.

There are two 10 amp fuses

One on the light circuit

One on the ignition circuit which powers the pto clutch.

Hope these diagrams help you narrow it down.

A constant short is easier to find than a momentary one.

If a constant short you can put a test light or voltmeter in place of the fuse. A light or 12 volt reading indicates the short is present. Work on it until it goes out.

This will not work with the pto switch on because it is another path to ground.

Thanks.  I'm wondering if its something with the wires connected to the pto.  I had to disconnect them when I put the belt to the mower deck on.  It runs for like 5 minutes then blows.
