Side step alternate materials/types ?

Mulling over what to do for the side steps on Colossus.

Catching a heel won't be much of a hindrance because of the extra length.

I'll likely put a ridge at the back of the step.

I know there's a few of you who have used different materials and replaced the originals with something interesting.

I've seen wrenches, different shapes metal, wood.

We're leaning towards a wood step of some sort.

Anybody have thoughts/pics/etc?

:confusion-confused:                                   Split out a couple of nice hardwood slabs and you're all set.

Good idea Bro,

Just be sure your big feet and big tires don't try to occupy the same space because your feet will lose.

Absolutely true. I think even with my 3 lb each safety shoes that would be putting me on the losing end.

I had a Bolens 1000 that had home made foot boards. Expanded metal grates on angle iron brackets .. actually some of those old collapsible tire snow grip mats to be specific.

At the rear was some curved sheet metal from the edge of the footplate, tapering back to line up with the clam-shell fender.

Just there to guard your heel in the woods, nothing more.

You being in the woods I would shy away from wood, go for a grate material to keep a good grip and clean.

Figured out over the weekend that the foot board area and tires don't even line up...

The inside of the tires will be on the outside of the foot boards.

Might need some metal on both sides of the foot board, bouncing around over those roots and rocks. Get some trailer fenders and sheet the inside.

Maybe go with another set of standard WH floor boards next to the normal ones - double-wide so to speak... just a thought...
