Mystery tractor

I've been pretty bored lately with all this covid stuff and I've been scanning Facebook lately to find something to fill some gaps. I found an older :wh: that ended up being too expensive for just a toy so I found this.... thing. If anyone knew its manufacturer bravo.

Its a Springfield from possibly 1961. I'm not sure of anything with this thing that's so ugly its adorable. There is very little information on the interwebs about these so any insight on these with be greatly appreciated. The guy selling it was asking $200 I offered $100 and said hed think about it. I hope I get it.

it's an early one, I think most if not all of there garden tractors used vertical engines. cheap entertainment for a 100 bucks, even if it's a loser it's a got a nice seat

I'd pay $100 just to get that seat.

But can you R+R the engine in 20 minutes?

My thinking exactly. It will be fun to play with and if I do get it running I will probably be one of few who own one of these. By the looks of it, I think changing tire pressure is how to adjust the deck height :ROTF:

Actually, that is in real nice shape.  Could make it a trailer queen??   :occasion-xmas:

On another site, this guy said he had 3.  He said they were manufactured by Quick MFG Co. in Springfield, Ohio in the mid 60's.  Then he said TORO bought them out in 1966.  :eusa-think:

all those weird 50s early riders are so cool look at, unfortunately there's not much value or collectors interested in them, you see them at shows for often under 100 bucks, most of the time they get purchased for the engine or sear then scrapped.

the old ads for 50's mowers  in magazines are cool too, usually some pretty lady in dress and heels cutting grass

They are so very cool to look at and see the evolution of riding mowers. I loved reading the history of Pennsylvania panzer tractors and how some guy was mowing a large university lawn and thought he could design a better machine and he did. I always have my eyes peeled for an affordable panzer or copar panzer. Initially I laughed when I saw this Springfield and I still do but it's so ugly it's cute. And I somehow feel a responsibility to rescue a machine like this from scrap. Perhaps most with any mechanical aptitude feel similarly

I wont tell if you wont 🤭 especially since my first tractor obsession was an allice Chalmers b112. Wish I never parted with that one. I do want a panzer badly tho
