JCM 9,130 #1 Posted April 16, 2020 @PeacemakerJack & @pullstart about your comments about the finish on the 1977 C-120 in Two fer Tuesday, I guess I stumbled on Multiple threads on here about this topic and if I remember correctly I used Simple Green Cleaner with a Grout sponge several times then dried the surface and used a Scotch Brite Pad , cleaned off the residue and applied several coats of WD 40 sprayed on a cotton cloth, pretty simple thanks to some tips on here. I have included some before and after photos that you may have seen on earlier posts. I was really amazed at how it turned out and being my first C - Series I now consider it one of my favorites. Also after seeing that finish it convinced me that I needed to paint the wheels as well. Thanks for your interest. 3

8ntruck 6,991 #3 Posted April 16, 2020 Did you dilute the Simple Green? I've used full strength Simple Green to strip paint on Lionel train cars before refinishing. Granted, it is different kind of paint in a different application, but, the paint came off.
JCM 9,130 #4 Posted April 16, 2020 @8ntruck Did not really dilute the Simple Green just used the sponge wet and kept ringing it out to keep it clean and damp.

JCM 9,130 #6 Posted April 16, 2020 @Herder In February of 2000 I bought a 312-8 with a 48'' front blade,42'' deck, tire chains and extra set of AG tires. This tractor was used pretty hard and I decided to pull it apart and replace almost everything except the engine. I have been trying to find the pics of that project and post them but are still among the missing. I remember how much labor and money it was to do that but ended up with a really nice # 3 tractor in the heard. I ended up selling it to a friend who also bought my 93 520-H and still owns both. I planned on doing the same to the 77 C-120 but after all the super nice original patina tractors I have checked out on this site I decided not to do a restore and enjoy it the way it stands as is just cleaned up and use it for light duty towing a dump cart around and for trail rides. I figure it has been worked hard enough since 1977 and is now what I consider in semi- retirement and trying to save it for someone else to enjoy it when I am done with it. Don't feel bad if you do not ever get to a repaint, just enjoy it for what it is. By the way, those hubcaps are Awesome. 1

Come to think about it, using Simple Green as a paint remover involves using it full strength as a soaking agent for a day or two.
