Yes it sure is. For several reasons. 

It has better ground clearance for going over our rough terrain. 

It's more stable because of the wider stance. 

It rolls far far easier than it did with the itty bitty tires. 

 

But maybe most important, it gets the main work beam up off the ground maybe 12 to 14 inches higher and is a real back saver when working with it. 

 

They are 15" (205/70R15 ?). 

 

Absolutely a worthwhile modification.

I know the feeling . My Didier is almost ground level with the 4.80-8s and it strains my back after awhile.

This splitter has several mods by both us and the PO to make it more powerful, handle much larger logs, and be more user friendly.

Lol so is mine. The cylinder is a rod type now and I've replaced the old B&S with a clone motor. Im sure Ill replace something else in the future.

One of the things I'd like to do to this one is put a better front jack/forward leg on it. 

We've also talked about welding horizontal splitters onto the vertical part to do twice the cutting. 

That would be a major time saver because we split ALL our firewood to half the size of most.

“Poppy” likely fits in this thread.  Stock pulley setup and only 7 smoky horsepowers, but the tires are more than capable of climbing with zero air pressure in them!  I need to drain and flush the transmission, it does the Classic “get stuck in two gears” trick quite often.

There's a new holland on youtube outfitted with terra tires that floated . No garden tractors yet that would be considered garden tractors by our standards but the Mow Money Bolens floated and there is the crypt keeper that tried . Their on youtube also. A kid that ive sold some parts to has a tractor he trail rides on a went into a creek too deep. He floated after the tractor flipped over
