Greentored 3,201 #1 Posted April 13, 2020 Just wondering how many of us have our work Horses, and perhaps a 'trail bomber/woods romper' as well? Thats the plan for this 654- dual purpose trail bomber, and keep another belt and pulley set for garden/yard work, since shes a lot smaller and more nimble that the big 520 for those things. We are all familiar with the racing tractors and pullers, but I had no idea 'mud mowers' or so they're termed, was such a big thing, til I started doing online searches. Some of these guys are insane, putting huge ATV tires, lift kits, bugout boxes, etc on them and burying them up to the hood in mud holes. NO I certainly do not have plans like that, just cant see cutting up a round hood Horse no matter how rough it is, but the concept is pretty neat. Ok, theres a set of aggressive, stock sized ATV tires on the way for her, but thats about it. So, who's got em? Lets see some pics! 5

rjg854 11,349 #3 Posted April 13, 2020 I've worked construction for 40 years, I don't like mud either. 3 1
ebinmaine 67,267 #4 Posted April 13, 2020 My Cinnamon Horse is equipped with the tires I bought specifically for slow speed forest trail driving while pulling a heavy load. Also the ONLY reason I'm using as justification for building Colossus. If you haven't already found it check out a YouTube channel called Fearless Front. Fella from up Central Maine somewhere. He has a LOT of knowledge on mud/trail mowers. One of his buddies built a Wheelhorse for another tube channel. Not sure the name of that one. 3

Pullstart 62,785 #6 Posted April 13, 2020 I stuck some bald old ATV tires that came from a Craftsman GT $20 auction investment on Steve and it did some real fun donuts out in the field a week or two ago! I was amazed how great a bald set of tires did! 3 1

I haven't paid much attention lately but I've watched Todd's channel alot in the past. It's important to note that his machines have a LOT of extra work/fab/time into them. He does good work and offers alot of good tips for off-roading. Wheelhorses are pretty tough for the most part. I know they do real well here in the wicked rough terrain.
formariz 11,987 #13 Posted April 15, 2020 (edited) We always have tons of fun off road with our horses and many times beat them up pretty bad. Unfortunately there never is anyone filming our crazy moments. Perhaps that is a good thing. Here are some short moments from cell phones. Greentored 3,201 #19 Posted November 25, 2020 Havent added to this thread in awhile. The ol 654 is holding up wonderfully! I did do a pulley swap, as a gps confirmed 28mph is just too much on the trails. Got her down to a solid 17-18mph now, which is still plenty. The new adjustable wheelie bar has kept her from landing on top of me again and works great for climbing hills without that fear. Had her out last Friday and the shop security camera caught me again Anybody else still enjoying some trail cruises? 1
Lee1977 6,642 #20 Posted November 25, 2020 (edited) The 312-8 is my trail machine when it's not mowing, grading or pulling the trailer. I avoid mud also the red clay here is nasty stuff when wet. Edited November 25, 2020 by Lee1977 3
slim67 2,735 #21 Posted November 25, 2020 ATLTF is a forum for guys like you. I can't afford to get hurt doing some of the things I've seen these guys do. Trail riding and water crossings would be ok but forget hills and mud. One hurts me flipping and the other hurts trying to get it unstuck. It's fun watching you younger guys though.

They have the already mentioned Top Tractor Challenge that is supposed to mimic the Top Truck Challenge that used to be put on by Four Wheeler magazine. I used to love going off road riding and could handle getting thrown off. Now I would be sore for a week just riding one. Check out Mr. Studebakers Cub Cadet on YouTube. It has a pretty radical Kohler for a trail machine.
