Let me know when the show is though. I just might go. If it happens this year it's in August the 7th to the 10th. I won't be there on the 10th. That tractor would fit right in. That's the best part. You get people stopping by and before you know it some one will know something about the transmission, the axle the hood who knows. I set up a canopy, a few chairs a few tractors and watch strange contraptions drive by. 1

Had an old employee tell me that quite often... along with “You can always learn something from someone older than you.” Another close friend and employee who passed away from lymphoma told me after witnessing a standstill argument between a lesser witted employee and myself... “Never argue with an idiot, because an innocent bystander might not know who the idiot really is.”

When I was 20 or 25 years old we were having a discussion about the saying: "Respect your elders." I'm paraphrasing a little bit but he told me. "Boy, that's crap. You respect everyone a little to start. Everyone. Then you figure out who deserves more and you give them the respect that the others don't deserve." 1

D_Mac 8,593 #94 Posted April 18, 2020 Well I borrowed the power washer today and sprayed it down. Still a lot of grease on it but took a good amount off. Took it for a pretty long drive up and down my street. Next I am going to borrow a grease gun and grease it up. There are a lot of grease fittings. Change the oil. When I get enough courage tackle that carb. I figure since it is part Speedex and part Bonanza it is now a " Speedanza" . I want to see how it looks with the different tires and wheels on it. Someone told me that the bolts holding the wheels on might be reversed thread ? Any truth to that before I break one? I am really suprised with what little effort it took to get it running and driving. It really needs to be seen in person to appreciate the work that went into building it. I still look forward to all your opinions as to what you see in it. Possibly picking up that plow and lawn roller for it tomorrow. Keep you posted. 1

None of my Speedex's have them but who knows if the guy that built it put them on. All the cars/trucks/tractors that I've seen that had left hand thread wheel bolts are on the left wheels looking at it from the operators position, and most of them had a raised L on the head of the bolt or stamped into it if it was a nut. The right side would have standard thread 1
ebinmaine 67,266 #96 Posted April 18, 2020 7 hours ago, D_Mac said: bolts holding the wheels on might be reversed thread ? Any truth to that before I break one You can avoid breaking one you're not sure of by using a trick I heard of 20+ years ago. "You can almost always tighten something but you can almost never loosen it". Here in the Northeast cars/trucks etc get VERY rusty too fast. If you tighten a bolt just a little it breaks the rust easier than trying to loosen it. Since you're not sure of thread direction try to treat all the bolts like normal but TIGHTEN them a tiny bit. Then Loosen a tiny bit. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. At that point you'll be dealing with a bolt that's more prone to move and you'll also know which thread it is by then. This is also a great time to use your favorite penetrating oil between your movements. 1
Pullstart 62,784 #97 Posted April 18, 2020 If the bolts are sticking through the hubs at all, spray those with penetrating oil and inspect the threads during that time. If you’ve ever seen a left hand thread, you’ll recognize how wonky it looks just threaded the wrong way! 2

Wire brush them first to get rid of built up rust. 8 hours ago, D_Mac said: I figure since it is part Speedex and part Bonanza it is now a " Speedanza" Now you know what to tell inquisitive people at the tractor shows. Friend of mine calls his a "Fromall" because it has barts fro all sorts of stuff.
