c-series don 8,663 #1 Posted April 11, 2020 A friend of a friend was trying to sell this a while ago and asked me if I was interested. I really don’t need another tractor, with 18 (I think!) I’m basically out of indoor storage space so I passed on it. Well don’t you know I got a call yesterday and was told to come and get it! It was only about 5 miles away and when I got there the gentleman couldn’t have been nicer. He said he got it from a friend used it for a year and just purchased a zero turn mower so he didn’t need the 520. He told our mutual friend “Tell your buddy that collects these things to come and get it!” I basically tapped the key, it fired right up And I drove it up the ramps into my truck! I noticed chrome deck wheels which made me wonder if the deck was originally on an LSE? Everything appears to be working including a working hour meter with 1004 hrs. Not sure if someone left the key on because it doesn’t smoke on start up. It even has a foot control. Cosmetically it looks like crap but hey as they say “If it’s for free it’s for me!” I’m not even sure what I’m going to do with it, maybe give it to my son in law? 8

tom2p 2,394 #7 Posted April 11, 2020 (edited) agree - nice score indeed ! hmmm ... quick look at the last picture ... right front wheel ... does not appear to have the heavy duty spindle with nut ... possible it's my poor eyesight Edited April 11, 2020 by tom2p
JCM 9,130 #8 Posted April 11, 2020 Always liked the OEM optional foot control, those 520's are a beast in the Snow. Good luck no matter what you decide to do with it.

lynnmor 7,302 #10 Posted April 11, 2020 The hour meter works off the oil pressure switch so leaving the key on will not cause a bad reading. What's up with the key switch near the front?

The 88&89 had the standard front axle.

Darb1964 1,042 #16 Posted April 12, 2020 Love the 520-H, the horse that got me hooked, bought new in 1989still going strong. Hour meter stoped working about fifteen years ago with 770on it, sure it has 2000 plus, have eased up on it last few years now that I have become a collector. Just picked up my sixth today. My wife asked me how many do you need, I told her when I find out I'll let you know. 2 4

What's up with the key switch near the front? If you’re referring to the hood someone actually had an automotive style antenna mounted on the hood and it looks like judging by the holes in the hood and fender there was a radio and speakers mounted on it? Yes Ed, but unfortunately the deck has seen better days. It’s got cancer in all the usual places that a deck gets when not taken care of. However the spindles are nice and quiet so no matter what I’m happy!
lynnmor 7,302 #19 Posted April 12, 2020 Down low on the left side there is something that looks like a switch in front of the engine. Maybe it’s an antenna base?

Bill D 1,907 #21 Posted April 12, 2020 Great tractor. Great to have friends that find deals like that for you. I need more friends like that. Anybody else but me notice that the foot pedal is on upside down?
JCM 9,130 #22 Posted April 12, 2020 Very observant @Bill D ,wide part should be at the top with the small return at bottom.

Anybody else but me notice that the foot pedal is on upside down? You know something? I was thinking this foot control thing isn’t very comfortable! I had to stretch my foot far forward go to fast and didn’t like it. I’ll switch it around today. While we talking foot control is there a spring or something that holds the motion control lever over from going into the neutral detent ? It goes into neutral and then you have to grab the handle to move it in the desired direction which defeats the purpose!
Bill D 1,907 #24 Posted April 12, 2020 If it has the type of lever I think it has, then no. Take the tunnel cover of and take the lever out. One bolt and spring is all that holds it in. You will have to bypass the neutral safety switch, or better yet, use a clutch switch from an 8-speed to replace it. There should be a square hole on the left side near the flag on the brake rod that can be used to mount the switch. The flag on the brake rod will activate the switch when the brake pedal is pressed. c-series don 8,663 #25 Posted April 14, 2020 Thank you Bill, I have flipped the foot pedal and I’m going to remove the rod and see how much I like it. Mower deck is off and mounting a 54” plow blade on it today.
