JCM 9,130 #1 Posted April 10, 2020 These are some pics for you @WV Hillbilly that I said I would post because of the Red Dirt on the frame of this car when a very good friend of mine bought when he Graduated from Norwich University in Vermont in 1986 and also a fellow Master Plumber . It had a small block 350 when he bought it but I told him it would look a lot better with a 396 in it. Long story short we picked one up after listening to it run and then he and I removed it and drove home. After installing many new parts and started it up months later it had a bad knock, must have been a mixture of gear oil and sawdust in the crankcase when we heard it run, he got discouraged and there it sits with a 1991 inspection sticker on it. He does have 4 sons but they are just not interested on working on much like we were when younger. I bought my 1970 Chevelle SS at 17 and never stopped working on it for the 23 years I owned it, I guess just a different mind set back then. Enjoy 7 3

Skwerl58 702 #5 Posted April 10, 2020 I love these 1969 Chevelle SS 396. I had one in high school that me brother bought from a neighbor. It was LeMans Blue with black interior, a 4 speed car with a 3.73 rear, with open chamber heads that were added. The car was a non - power steering car with front disc brakes. My Dad rebuilt the engine and had our local NAPA do the machine work. After I got it from my brother I added a Hurst Comp Plus shifter, different shocks, Holley carb and added the M/T valve covers and stuff. I know God watches over me because he brought me home safe more than once in my crazy teen age years. Another note about this time, Dad bought a Sears SS16 Lawn tractor that he just sold a couple of years ago with all the gardening equipment. He would not let my brothers or me ride the tractor to mow the grass while we lived there. We used the push mower to help with the lawn. He said I would break an anvil with a hammer! Man, they were good times!
Digger 66 3,478 #6 Posted April 10, 2020 Whatever you do , DON'T GET RID OF IT ! You'll regret it the rest of your life . I sold this '69 Camaro after my dad passed away in '07 and every time I look at it I figure out a new way to kick myself in the *$$ ! 1 1 1

JCM 9,130 #8 Posted April 10, 2020 @The Tool Crib Yes , It is a 4 speed car and I should have pics of the interior that I will add.
The Tuul Crib 7,336 #9 Posted April 10, 2020 @JCM thanks for sharing these pictures. This car brings back a lot of good memories of my teenage years. The big block Chevrolet with a four-speed is just unbeatable! I would give my left ....no both of them for one of these! Sweet!!
WVHillbilly520H 10,373 #10 Posted April 11, 2020 @JCM, my first car was almost a 68 Chevelle 327/4spd (green on green) with Crager Super Trick wheels, headers and dual exhaust but dad talked me out of that and into a '76 Chevy LUV with a factory installed California Step Side... (70hp and 70 mph down hill with a tail wind) because a truck would better suit where we lived. Here it is with my 1st wife on the hood I even built a model of it and was ready to turn it into my own artwork... Then I see one at a car show last fall.

Enjoy JCM - you gotta rescue that car ! looks like original condition and fairly clean The two 70 SS I had were that same color (or very similar)
WVHillbilly520H 10,373 #12 Posted April 11, 2020 (edited) Of course I don't have any pics of the actual car but this would be an extremely close version... Wish I could find one in decent shape to add with my '78. Edited April 11, 2020 by WVHillbilly520H
tom2p 2,394 #13 Posted April 11, 2020 WV - my first car was a 68 got it when I was 15 - sold my bike to buy it ; stripped it to bare metal and then a friend painted it initially put crager wheels on it - but then later factory SS wheels with the small centers great memories ! also had a 67 and two 70's ; the 70's were among my fav cars ... and imo one of the better muscle cars ever produced

JCM 9,130 #16 Posted April 11, 2020 Found some more pics of the 69 SS. I believe he has all new seat covers, door panels, carpet, most if not all front grille trim, SS badge's and the list goes on and on. I have tried to buy it and even let him store it for many years in my garage for nothing until I really needed the space back. If it does get restored I will be sure to post pics but wouldn't bet on it. I had to laugh a little when I saw the Astro Vents, all those did on my 70 SS was blow hot air from the Hooker Headers into the drivers compartment. 2

With big blocks and a standard.... with a frame!! Instead they make small fuel efficient cars that have price tags way too high!! @JCM

tom2p 2,394 #22 Posted April 16, 2020 (edited) still have not found pics of my 68 - but did locate pics of a friend's 68 he bought this car right around the time I got mine - but he paid less for his and in much better shape : out of state car with no rust and in original like condition ... factory buckets etc ... replaced the factory big block with a warmed over small block car was so clean and straight it was begging for black - so they shot it with Imron black before and after shots below Edited April 16, 2020 by tom2p
