Drive belt issues

Recommended Posts

The Tuul Crib

I just ordered a drive belt for my

414-8 and it came this morning .

It calls for a 108501 - 7473.
5/8 x 82 should work right? Nope!

Too small . I checked to make sure

that the PO for some reason didnt

change out either pulley but they are

both correct. Any one have this same

issue ?

What's the brand and part number of the belt that you got Randy?

And is the BELT ITSELF stamped with the correct numbers?

The number on the belt is the same as the number on the sleeve should be correct

Is your old belt in decent enough shape to compare the measurement of them side-by-side?

The old belt was a new one I just put on it and for some reason where the idler pulley is something happened and it came to a quick complete stop. Get bent up part of the arm or the idler pulley goes to. I ended up taking it off straightening it up and welding some more metal to make it stronger. Could not push the clutch pedal at all. It was a green belt and it got all chewed up I'm not sure what caused it to do this

I have the best luck with drive belts by using wheel horse brand. Mower deck belts can be off brand but for drive belts I use wheel horse brand. I have a 414-8 with no trouble :twocents-02cents:

Agree - many off brand belts will work well - but some off brand lower quality belts don't perform well and are not durable.

And some current 'OEM' belts are lower quality and also don't work well.  I replaced an old  10+ year old Toro Wheel Horse 'true' OEM deck belt with a more recent lower quality 'OEM' belt - but then quickly replaced it after a few hours of service because it 'flopped' around more than the old belt did.

I suspected the new 'OEM' belt was of lower quality after quick observation:  The replacement belt was not molded / wrapped - and the overall width or 'thickness' of the new belt was slightly less than the old belt.

Unless you can get a true Toro Wheel Horse OEM belt - better to get a better high quality non-Toro replacement.

Basically - if you get a 'OEM' belt that is not molded / wrapped - and Made In Mexico printed on it ... good luck.

With pulleys in tip top shape etc - it might provide reasonable service ... might ... possibly ...

With less than perfect pulleys - it might not last 4 hours.  And if you are like me - you will throw it in the garbage - install the old belt - and then look for 'true' OEM belt or a high quality belt of a different brand.

I found out, when i tryed my Belts for the Hydraulic rework of my Hrse, that several Dealers confuses between inner and outer diameter.

few Belts i ordered as 1226mm outer diameter come as 1226mm inner diameter, that means it will be too long and vice versa.

I would like to see a side picture of the belt you got. A B series belt is not the same as a 5L series. If there is a Tractor Supply near by, get a one of their blue belts 5/8 X 82. The inside measurement is a bit longer than a B78. If it doesn't work, you can return it.

I ordered this for one of my C-145’s. The belt that was on it just would not pull the machine unless you were just riding around. I put this belt on and was able to pull a12” moldboard plow through the dirt. The price is for each belt, I bought two still have another 145 that needs a belt.
