Another Deck ID

It has no tags and was taken off a 1277. It has a later style reinforcement plate above the spindles and the later style square ended belt cover. My research shows no decks from say '71 down using  the early style mule drive do not have this. It also has what I believe the earlier "J" style greaseable spindles.

Beginning to think this may be a franken deck?

That deck is most probably model RL-486.  Superceded to model 5-1481.

It's a 42 Dave... three 14" blades.

Still think its a 48".  Why, you ask?  1) only the 48" had the reinforcement plate.  The Belt cover is bolted onto that reinf plate using bolts horizontaly into that plate, not directly to the deck shell like the 42" does. 2) the center Double-Belt pulley is same diamenter top & bottom. 3) the outer pulley I can read number 106849 on it....that is a 48" pulley, not 42".  If a 42" pulley, it would be # 5877 or 106846.  Here is a schematic of a 42:" deck # RL-426...  Why the blades you have measure at 14" ...I don't have an answer for that one.

That is certainly correct Dave.

I think they were different dia. ...check when I get home tonight. And recheck the length of the blades! Hopefully I am wrong and they are 16's as I believe the blades are NLA?

The outside pulleys are definitely  bigger than a 42"

I kept saying that this deck looked bigger. Never did throw a tape on it though. It's still in my truck so I'll measure it on my lunch break.

True cutting width looks to be more like 47". Measuring on the left side though, it is just a little more than 8" from the center of the spindle hole to the edge of the deck.

The 8" center measurement confirms thaat you have a 48" deck....requiring three 16" blades.  W/H didn't ever make a 47" deck.

Agreed....some PO must have wanted a 46 tho. The blades I took took off. I didn't notice when I took them off. I was in a mafia disassembly frenzy. 

 

Luckily I have another older deck on the bottom of this pile. Luck holds out there will be one good blade on it. 

 

Next question can a guy get some generic blades, put a 3/4 round hole in them and drill some holes for the roll pins? Is haveing the D hole critical?

Can't tell, but the only 48" deck with 16" BLADES looks to be the bottom of the pile.  

Lemme know if you find a good 16" double-D blade.... I may have one or two leftovers.
