Grandson's request for his "Little Red"

Recommended Posts

steelsmith

My grandson 5th birthday is coming up next weekend, as I had gotten him a 1961 401 suburban for birthday #3 he now need somthing to go with it.

So I'am now looking for a mower deck or a plow for his Little Red, But I don't know  what would fit/work for his tractor.

So Iam asking for your help on what I should be looking for. And all we have is the tractor so I know we are going to need a lift fram also.

Thank you for your help.

Joe

Wish you were closer, have a deck in decent shape, it would be yours for the taking.

I can post some pics of a 1961 suburban mower deck,  but I would be careful for getting on for a kid

@steelsmith I have a couple decks from ‘62 models not knowing if they’d work with the mid engine... but I’d be reluctant to put it on a children’s tractor or at least install a belt for the time being...

at 4-5 years old the kid should probably already have a spare mower deck or two ?

or maybe some extra cash from cutting grass or washing cars to get a deck ?

smh  kids these days

in my day we walked 3 miles to school - backwards - pulling an old Cub Cadet mower deck attached to a rope

I'm not sure how old I was when I started, but I was mowing at about that age.  Don't really see an issue with it as long as you keep an eye on them and teach them right.  I know before I was 10 I was mowing for 3 or 4 neighbors.  One of them gave me a Doberman pup when I was 9 because I'd done a good job for them for a few years.

Thanks for all the replys,

He can't start it  on his own or get it in gear (yet) so dad is in charge of all that. But He does a good job of driving and He knows when and how to kill the motor,

The mower deck is more then he needs now but if/when I can get one we can go though it together and he would have it when he needs it, looking more for a snow/push blade for this year.  I have a blade for a cc that I'am going to look at again and maybe we could build something to use it on his Little Red. He likes to build things as much as drive tractors.

My wife is the one that likes for him to get what he want's, I'am the one that has to do all the work to geterdone.

Personally I'd go for a blade or maybe a trailer. :handgestures-thumbup:
