peter lena 9,088 #4 Posted April 5, 2020 agree with others above , i like the walmart everstart 360 , i live in cold country and the extra zap is very good . while you are at wally world , you can also check out the , BATTERY TENDER , charging set up . i have the quick plug in wired onto all three of my tractor batteries , letting me plug in for battery maintenance at any time. pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I look at the lower end, (under 300 CCA) batteries as half a battery, priced to sell. I too, use the Battery Tender brand chargers for their multiple stage charging, and would not use the cheap things. I rotate the charger so that each battery is on it at least three days per month, disconnecting it just after the light turns green is not a complete charge. The quick connect plugs are a real convenience, but again, don't buy the cheap junk on eBay, ask me how I know. Keeping a battery fully charged is necessary for long life. previously used Diehard batteries in just about everything for decades - and then recently moved to East Penn / Deka (?) batteries during the past year or so when I could no longer get Sears Diehard batteries Got the Duracell branded East Penn / Deka batteries have one car with a fairly high parasitic drain (at the top end of the 'acceptable' area of the scale) lesser quality battery in this car will go dead if the car sits for a couple weeks - but no issue with the Duracell battery installed ... so far good results / similar to DieHard battery Edited April 5, 2020 by tom2p Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
ZXT 2,401 #8 Posted April 5, 2020 From my experience, I've found that spending the extra $10 on the 350CCA battery over the 230 is a wise choice. When you're cranking on an engine, if the battery is undersized it will be working harder and heating the plates up. Plate warpage = quicker death of the battery. I've never found the bottom of the line cheapo batteries to last more than a year. I tend to use Duralast lawn mower batteries. They're the only brand I've ever bought and had last more than 3-4 years. I've had a couple to last 9 years, and they never once saw a battery tender. I did have one mower battery from Tractor Supply that was still good on a cheapo mower that I was given in 2018. Battery was dated mid 2009, so it looks like they might be good as well. I bought a new battery about a week ago for my yellow tractor and did some looking at reviews. I looked at Walmart first since their 350CCA battery is something like $39 whereas everywhere else they're $49. Every review on the battery said that it died in less than 2 years. Oreilly's (Superstart) has one that has decent reviews and I do own one of them. It's about 1.5 years old and no problems yet. Autozone (Duralast) is the only one that I found numerous reviews of people stating that the battery lasted 5+ years. It also has a 4.7 rating whereas the others were in the low 3 range. I concur with the Duralast in my 520s those Onans take a bit more CA to turn over cold or hot than a single Kohler ,my first one lasted 7 or so years. Now I have 2 520s both with the Duralast U1-3 425CA/340CCA only the snow blower rig gets life support on one of my Schumacher 1.5 amp maintainers so far I have 4 years on those 2 batteries now with the 315 I did cheap out with the Everstart U1-7 230 CCA (probably 300CA) and it has lasted 2 years to date no maintainer. Honestly if you have your owners/operators manuals it states which CA battery is recommended but it all boils down to immediate budget and need JMO. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
