Snow plow lift chain question

Recommended Posts

3148ISGREAT

I bought a class 3 hitch for my 314-8 so I can move the log splitter around the property and it came with snowplow mounts that changed the layout from underneath the rear axle to in front of the axle.

The problem I'm having now is the chain from the plow bracket doesn't reach the lever because it's 2 to 4 inches further front than before.

I remember seeing a post on here where someone modified an attach-a-matic in the same way this hitch is set up and they had the same issue but I can't find the post.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm hoping I don't need the plow anymore this year but it's a nice day out and I'm hoping to have it ready for next year

I did a very similar thing to my cinnamon horse.

In my case I made up the rear brackets and used a solid link.

To account for the front bracket I used a spacer adapter bolted to the existing plow bracket.

1/4" flat iron? I think it might have been your post I was thinking of. That might be the affordable solution I need, I'm kind of disappointed I don't have a reason to pick up a harbor freight winch though.

Just get the winch and use it for something else. I don't mean to cause disappointment....

:D

I would use either 3/16 or 1/4".

I tried 1/8 and I think it's a little too thin. It's wearing quickly.

Any chance the brackets could be flipped side to side?

If I had access to a welder that might work.

Schuylkill haven. I found some flat iron I can work with for now.

That's over an hour and a half from me in York County, probably too far just to do a bit of welding.

This is what I ended up with 7 hours later. I really need to stock up on hardware. Once this virus deal is over I'm going to get the flat iron welded to the frame. I don't foresee ever selling this plow separately. So I'm not too concerned about modifying it

The only thing is now the lift lever doesn't stay locked but I might just get a winch put on the front to hold the plow up in the future.
