Deck Wheels Replacement

Recommended Posts

JoeM

Was needing some 6 inch deck wheels and was looking at the web. Found these wheels sold by a Reading Pa. Company, Service Caster. They are poly, 2 inches wide, (requires a longer 2 1/2" shoulder bolts, I got those from McMasterCarr), have roller bearings and are pretty inexpensive.

I drilled the shoulder bolt with an 1/8" bit to the dept to match the hole in race / bushing they provide. I use a needle greaser or pin point greaser to service the wheel. I figure you could just pack the bearings once the once a year and that would work also. They have ones with ball bearings but are $4 more and I am thrifty.

:D

Service Caster also has other sizes.

Just passing it along. I figure most all are cooped up and checking for fresh info as well as myself!

hello tractorjunkie, read your  review above , while looking for a similar size and shape to the original w/h deck wheel, i came up with these  at  T/S , https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/martin-wheel-6x1-3-8-plastic-deck-wheel-1-2-in-bushing-1-3-8-in-offset-hub?cm_vc=-10005&st=6 martin deck wheels  been using them for years now ,with no problems at all , at $ 7  apiece , its a no brainer . they easily tuck into the rear corner of my decks , keeping the the deck width tight. it was the  $ 20+ dollar cost of original wheels that drove me off , like you , this is my own experience , do not mean to offend anyone . main thing is keeping up with your horse , pete

Nice looking wheel, I bet if you made that axle greasable that would last even longer.
I was even looking into just replacing the bushings and that is also a cheap option, but the shoulder bolts needed replace too, so I just went with a bearing style, a little wider.
I have room for 8 inch wheels. I mow with the height close to or at the top of the adjustment. The 8 inch would give me a little more range. Thinking that might be a future move.

They also carry some neat hand truck wheels and some steel wheels. Casters for tool boxes and heavy shelving.
Makes me want to put wheels on everything…like Franks red hot!

i hear what you are saying , use lucas grease on them, no issues , my 6" give me the exact height i want for my lawn , with a 42 r/d deck it just comes out really nice. i do like your wheel though ,and will probably go to them when making up my rear lift tractor swing for movement in my shed. like a two wheel ,j curve  lift under the rear end just to move things around , that's my next project , pete
