Rear Discharge Deflector

Recommended Posts

DavidCozzi92

Hello, this my first post on the forum and I'm hoping you all can help me. I have a 414-8 wheel horse in my shop for a customer and I'm looking for a missing piece. He has a rear discharge deck and wants to block off the back side but cannot locate the part to do so. Our local Toro/Old wheel horse dealer looked for it based on his serial number and told him it has been discontinued. I'm hoping someone has one, if not even just a picture of one would help as I cam fabricate something to bolt on. I will post pics of the mower and the serial number in Hope's that someone has information on this part. Thanks for the help

I can't help either but your customer has a pretty nice looking older horse. I did not know wheel horse even made the piece, was that to turn the deck into a mulcher?

I'm stuck at work.

They did make a metal deflector for the 42 RD deck. I have one on a deck I got one time.

others will chime in with part numbers, years produced, the friend at WH who made them etc.

others fabbed out rubber versions made out of TSC horse mats etc.

the metal OEM one is a one piece thin metal that bolts in the back of the deck.  it flares downwards at both ends and the middle section shoots straight back. it is about 5 inches wide or so.

one could get a pictures and create their own out of sheet metal etc.

agree with varosd , with making up a rubber bolt on strip on the deck , T/S  or related hardware stores have rubber matting that can be easily cut and fit to the job. b t w. you do not want to block the discharge off , you want to slow down the discharge and deflect it , reducing the clumping . nice looking  4-14-8  you have there . pete

I'm not aware of a part that blocks off the back side of a 42" RD deck

I believe a defector was offered at one time (?) - but if I saw one it has been so long can't recall

As you stated - could fabricate one  (metal) - or make a fairly crude one from industrial belt / rubber / plastic material similar to one pictured below.

I have a defector off of a deck I have sold. I think it is in the back of the barn. I will look this afternoon and post a picture. I liked running the deck with it off.

To be honest for what you are looking for that rubber flap is much better. The metal defector is not much more than and extension of the deck.

the #1 and single best thing you can do for this tractor - other than selling to me - is to install the running board rubber mats ... get them back on asap or sooner

climbing on to a Wheel Horse 300-500 series garden tractor without the mats and anything but completely dry shoes and running boards will *not* end well

as eb will often say - don't ask me how I know this ... lol

Sorry for such a poor picture!

looking from rear to front, you can see the down turn on the left and straight back in the middle. Not shown is the right side down turn
