Hood pivot rod

Recommended Posts

kthomas62

Good evening all,

So, the hood pivot rod is about worn out on my 414-8. It doesn't seem to be available any longer. Just wondering what some of you may have crafted one from?

Thanks!

Kevin

I do this to get rid of all the slop in all the components.

Make up a pin from 1/2" rod (I used stainless steel)  then drill out the front hitch and the 2 hood pivots.

As you can see I use cotter pins and washers instead of the E-clips.

For the stop pin to hold the hood open the correct amount I make up this pin.

Here is a quick fix. 1/2" rod and two 1/4" hose clamps.

953 nut

The rod is a 3/8" steel round stock that can be found at any hardware store. The holes are probably elongated and can be drilled out and insert some flanged bushings to bring it back down to 3/8".
