I think lead hills was the place we visited a few months back, didn't feel very high at all.

Sounds like the sort of vehicles we grew up with! I remember one family car that you could only drive for short distances until the radiator emptied itself, then park while it cooled down before going topping up again and continuing for a little while.... Had a lot of water in the boot.

Ahh the good ol days...

 

I once had a 79 Camaro with a very well worn V8.

 

It would oil foul one of the plugs about every 1100 miles.

And drank oil.

 

I didn't change the oil ... Ever.

It used more than the 5 qts back when the interval was 3000 miles to change.

I did change out the filter then though... For good measure.

It was fun though keeping those things running. We had another car with no fuel tank, just a coke bottle plumbed into the carburettor. Again, very short intervals between stopping for fuel!

 That many! First car I had, and don't laugh, was a 1960 Reliant Regal 3 wheeler. 750 side valve engine. Had to change number 1 plug about every 70 miles or so.

 You could do it without getting out of the drivers seat. There was a panel held with clips along side your legs.

Yes! I had a little pile of plugs under the seat.

I only got the car because I hadn't got a licence to drive a 4 wheeled car. You could drive a 3 wheeler on a motorcycle licence.

First wife was never very happy about riding pillion on a solo or in the sidecar of a combination. Can't think why?

I bet Trina would think it was great.

Norm, how can you use "Reliant Regal 3 wheeler" and "don't laugh" in the same sentence?  Have you seen any of the old Top Gear videos with the Reliant Robin?  They're hilarious!

Yep, part of me laughs uncontrollably at TG's antics, the other part laments the fact that they destroyed what may have been some perfectly good (or at least repairable) vehicles in the process.

Its such a shame they ruined Top Gear, the Grand Tour has never quite hit the target compared to the trios previous antics.

 

A few years ago we went to the Beaulieu car museum in Hampshire, there are a lot of the old Top Gear project cars on display including the spare rocket reliant - well worth a visit if your in the area.

We have a new addition to the herd today!

 

Another Massey 35 has joined the gang, mostly so we have a spare one and for towing a trailer on busy days.

 

Such lovely little machines and so simple. Our main one has just had a lot of work done and is looking very smart with it's shiny new parts.

I had a Vega in college. I'd buy a case of "Quaker City" oil at the grocery store @.49cents a qt. Drive 100 miles to college and the oil light would come on. Dump a couple of qts. in for the return trip every weekend. Replaced the filter during the summer months 

 

I had a 67 Corvair. No park with the automatic Powerglide trans so you had to use the E brake. Or find a tree or building.

My wife and I had a '65 Corvair with that same transmission (smoothest automatic I ever drove).  She used to work night shift, came home one morning as I was having my first cup of coffee, parked the 'Vair in the driveway as usual, came inside, we both heard a little noise and looked outside to see the car backed across the road stopped against a large clump of bushes.  That property now has a nice house on it, if that happened now we'd be winching a Corvair out of the creek at the bottom.

Before I met my wife, her mother had a Corvair. One evening she forget to set the brake. Next morning it's up against a tree. back bumper is bent and the oil filter housing is cracked. 

 

My mother had a 79 Monza. She worked 2 jobs and got home like at 2 in the morning. I get up in the AM and here's the car sitting crossways in the middle of the street. She forgot to put it in park and take the keys out! 

 

Off topic? it's almost 100 out. we need to do something in front of the AC!

  There's two 35's on the farm I go to. One's a 35X. One has the yard scraper on the back. Used every day in the milking parlour holding yard.  T'other a loader bucket on the front.

Our other one is a 35x and has the loader but it's not fitted at the moment as we use the two new tractors now.

Finally got a picture of the Kubota!

 

We had to cut down a tree branch so we can get a concrete truck into one of the sheds for the morning, there is a new floor going in.

 

The Kubota decided to sneak up on me across the yard, disguised as a tree....

Unlike American Reliants! The good ol US of A's answer to Renault! 

 

Top Gear's Reliant episode was the first one of their shows that I saw!
