bellevillerod 834 #1 Posted March 22, 2020 Hey guy's I need a little advise on a snowblower. I plan on redoing my C-160 Auto and turning into my snow removal machine. I just got a cab, and now looking for a blower for it. I found one with all the parts included. Look's from the pic'c to be in nice condition. Other than the obvious, dents, bearings, chute what do I need to look at? It is from the late 70's and he is asking 150.00 for it. It is a short chute machine. Is that a good price, an should I hold out for a tall chute machine? Just school me a little so I feel confident when I go to see it. Thx Rod
JCM 9,130 #2 Posted March 22, 2020 This is JMO. i have used a 2 stage 44'' for just over 300 hours on a 520 - H and can honestly say no matter what the conditions it has never disappointed, I can't help with a recommendation on a single stage, but your C-160 has the grunt to run any one of those. Good luck with your decision.
WVHillbilly520H 10,373 #3 Posted March 22, 2020 (edited) I had a 42" tall chute single for many years before the 44" 2stage very comparable in fresh snows except for DOT plow banks that's where the 2stage made the biggest difference for me now the difference between tall and short chute the tall will throw farther and has the mechanical/gear chute rotator vs the cumbersome and failure prone cable style on the short chute version but either of the 3 is better than a shovel. SPINJIM 1,981 #4 Posted March 22, 2020 $150 is a fair price for a single-stage, low chute if everything works well. It will do fine for fluffy snow. A tall-chute will be higher priced, because it is a newer design and throws the snow a little farther. Either way, check the chain, the pulleys, and the chain sprocket. Good luck. bellevillerod 834 #6 Posted March 22, 2020 Thanks for the reply's guy's but I sent him an email. He changed his mind and decided to keep it. I just thought that 150.00 was pretty good as I see them listed around here from 250.00-400.00 single stage short vs long neck. But I now have a better idea of what to look for when one pop's up. This must be the universes way to tell me to wait on a two stage.....

Now the 2stage is a bit more involved to maintain and repair as well to "hitch" up not to mention lift if manual vs hydro in all honesty the tall single did everything the 2stage does except chew through DOT plow banks I wouldn't pass up a really decent tall single over a 2stage.
