Yes I did this a few years back I used a standard 1/4" collect die grinder and 3" cut off discs, don't worry about the old sprocket (for obvious reasons), also DON'T grind ALL the old weld off the inside (next to auger fins as that will be your alignment stops for your new sprocket) the new sprocket can be acquired from TSC or online suppliers but NOT from TORO and will need to be machined (sized to fit the auger as the ones I found were the right outside diameter and tooth count but not the correct internal diameter. Unfortunately the only picture I took was after installing/welding/painting the sprocket/auger during the rebuild. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
WHX?? 48,791 #3 Posted March 21, 2020 (edited) Another alternative is look for a donor blower. They are pretty common, around here anyway, and guys can't give them away. I have been looking for one, but never see and local WH stuff. I have always had to drive 2-3 hours to buy tractors. If I was smart I would save this snow blower for parts and buy one that isn't worn out lol. Also when I bought this I was so enthusiastic to get it working I bought a new chain and idler sprockets and pulleys before I realized how bad the auger sprocket is, so now I feel invested in it. Thankfully I can say most of my "invested" projects came out good... well maybe ok.... would have come out better I had 'Billies talents and resources. But at least you have had few more restorations come to fruition. Necessity is the mother of invention... @EchoBravo Good idea, never thought to use a die grinder. Also with the 4 1/2" grinder try going at the welds with the 1/8" cut off wheel parallel to the worn sprocket and wheel outer diameter towards the auger even if you cut the auger welding will repair when replacing with a new sprocket. After an hour with the grinder and cut off wheels I did take a 3lb mini sledge to it, but I got worried I would bend something that I don't want bent.
