seven   202 #1 Posted March 21, 2020 I have a really nice c160 and I have not changed oil in it for maybe probably close to twoish years I only use it for blowing snow. It looks pretty clean yet too not that I'm cheap on the price of oil or anything either 😂
ebinmaine   67,266 #2 Posted March 21, 2020 Should be done every 25 hours if I remember right.  2
SylvanLakeWH Â Â 25,490 #3 Posted March 21, 2020 I'd change it yearly - after snow season - to get the gunk - if any - out... Â
JAinVA   4,619 #4 Posted March 21, 2020 (edited) Two quarts of 30wt every 25 hours or yearly. The Kohlers have no oil filters and oil is cheap compared to hard parts.Get the engine up to operating temp, before changing.I have an M 16 that changes its own oil every 20 hours by burning it but I still do  an oil change on a regular basis. tom2p   2,394 #5 Posted March 21, 2020 if you do short runs during the winter - and especially if engine is not run at regular operating temp for a decent period - the oil should be changed more / fairly frequently   3
tom2p   2,394 #6 Posted March 21, 2020 (edited) a lot of things going on during winter runs ...  oil does not flow as well at lower temps - especially straight weight (30w or similar ) - so more wear can occur at cold startup ... and therefore can contaminate the oil  engine takes longer to get to full operating temp - so byproducts from combustion are not consumed (burnt off) as quickly ... and therefore can contaminate the oil ...  this can be more so if/when choke is used more leading to over rich condition ... and especially if engine is not run at full operating temp for a decent period of time  this is why back in the day ... the little old lady/man's car with low miles and used only for short rides to church would often have valve covers filled with sludge ... and sometimes would also use oil ... tick  ...   Edited March 21, 2020 by tom2p 3

The Tuul Crib   7,336 #8 Posted March 21, 2020 Agreed with all the above I change mine once a year and the oil I have chosen is the shell Rotella 30 Weight.

pfrederi   17,663 #11 Posted March 21, 2020 Depends on usage also. My snowblower Electro 16 horse got her oil changed last spring when she was put down for long summer nap. Total usage since then about 15 minutes of running driving down from the storage shed. One start up as a test in January she is going back into storage this week no oil change. i did drain all the gas and put in fresh non ethanol with stabilzer yesterday . 2 year old gas even non ethanol with stabil I would not trust come this next fall when she wakes up again.

oldlineman   1,481 #13 Posted March 21, 2020 Another vote for Rotella 3o but only in the summer!
peter lena   8,580 #14 Posted March 21, 2020 agree wit others above, but my emphasis is engine flushing heat at oil change time, if your engine has a " milky slime " in the oil filler pipe , you have a moisture / oil issue. i know its not always easy to run long enough to thoroughly heat up that kohler , but the longer you can run it , and engage the pto lever , even without a blower , etc on it , just to increase oil heating ,and cleaning effects ,related the better off you are . we all have different views on oil life, but hot flush oil changes ,regularly is your best bet. like rotella 30 wt summer, use a 5-30 over winter. pete
lynnmor   7,302 #15 Posted March 21, 2020 Agree with the hot oil draining. I have my tools ready and drain immediately after shutting off the engine in all my internal combustion engines. I believe that more contaminates will come out when the oil is well stirred. 1

CHANGE THE OIL! yes - moisture is bad  byproducts from combustion etc can reduce the efficiency of the oil to effectively deal with moisture (reduce efficiency of the additives)
peter lena   8,580 #17 Posted March 22, 2020 it would be nice if ROTELLA 5-30 , which they do sell for pickups , were not priced 8-10 $ more than the straight 30 wt . personally i will not pay that . that way you could stay with the same brand and chemical make up oil . just saying , pete
peter lena   8,580 #18 Posted March 22, 2020 sylvanlakewh, you know , that very price issue , makes me going to contact SHELL OIL , about their price gouging on that oil , what do i have to loose ? a CUSTOMER COMPLAINING OVER PRICING ? GAME ON , PETE
