The Tuul Crib 7,337 #1 Posted March 13, 2020 I just started to take the sun strand apart and I got to a point where I'm scratching my head. I cannot find a socket to fit these bolts. Any ideas what size they are ? they look to be possibly a 12 point that I don't have.

pfrederi 17,867 #4 Posted March 13, 2020 (edited) To work a sunstrand hydro you eventually need 3/8" and 5/16" 12 point sockets. You are going to have to remove the motion control arm first to get to the 3 12pt head bolts. Edited March 13, 2020 by pfrederi

I don't have any 12 points so I will have to go shopping this weekend

Some 3/8" drive sockets can be kind of fat and may not clear. this is a case where more expensive sockets are usually made of better steel and can be thinner/smaller 1
pfrederi 17,867 #7 Posted March 13, 2020 I bought this set pricey but extremely good quality. Like the 9/16 which is not usually in 1/4" drive sets but fits in tight spaces!!!
ZXT 2,401 #8 Posted March 14, 2020 Looks like someone hasn't ever had to replace the steering rag joint on an old GM vehicle! They're 12pt and the main reason I have a few 12pt sockets. I'll second getting 1/4" drive sockets. The bore of that hole is pretty small. Seems that most of the cheaper 12pt sockets I've seen are unnecessarily thick.
