Sunstrand tare down

Recommended Posts

The Tuul Crib

I just started to take the sun strand apart and I got to a point where I'm scratching my head. I cannot find a socket to fit these bolts. Any ideas what size they are ?
they look to be possibly a 12 point that I don't have.

Darn the luck anyway. Not sure what I'm looking for this yet but I'm sure it is simple.

To work a sunstrand hydro you eventually need 3/8" and 5/16" 12 point sockets.

You are going to have to remove the motion control arm first to get to the 3 12pt head bolts.

That's what it did look like to me as being a 12 point. I don't have any 12 points so I will have to go shopping this weekend

I would suggest getting 1/4" drive for the 5/16.  Some 3/8" drive sockets can be kind of fat and may not clear.  this is a case where more expensive sockets are usually made of better steel and can be thinner/smaller

I bought this set pricey but extremely good quality.  Like the 9/16 which is not usually in 1/4" drive sets but fits in tight spaces!!!

Looks like someone hasn't ever had to replace the steering rag joint on an old GM vehicle! They're 12pt and the main reason I have a few 12pt sockets.

I'll second getting 1/4" drive sockets. The bore of that hole is pretty small. Seems that most of the cheaper 12pt sockets I've seen are unnecessarily thick.
