12 horse starts hard

Recommended Posts

The Tuul Crib

So just recently I got this 12 horse put back together after a rebuild. Everything is going fine it first started easily popped right off.

after running it a while I shut it off and it sounds like the battery is dead. Check the battery it's brand new anyway read 12.67 checked and cleaned all the connections.

lt still turns over one revolution and then stops. Otherwise the motor runs perfect when it's running any suggestions? And I did take the cam cover off and check the ACR spring  and it is still intact

Check your valve settings. Especially the exhaust valve. May not be opening enough for the compression release to work properly.

Did you remove the paint from the point where the ground wire connects to the engine block?

When I first started it and ran it a while changed out the first batch of oil then I checked the valves after that and they were both set to spec. Do I need to go to the max on the exhaust valve? And also I will have to check the paint thing on the points. Never thought about that. Like I said it runs great when it's running no problems it's just a starting issue.

Just throwing darts here but. If this is an engine with points check your gap on them. If the gap is too wide your timing would be too far advanced causing it to fire against itself. I had this issue with a pull start engine & it would literally rip the pull cord out of you hand when it would fire. Closed the gap on the points a little & life was good.

Minimum valve clearance gives more compression release.

The bump the cam provides just closes the gap if too wide so minium or no valve movement.

That was my thoughts too.  Possibly too far advanced timing :handgestures-thumbupright:
