My new 856!!

Recommended Posts

bottjernat1

Well I got her home. Got a little work cut out for myself but I hope to have her running on her own later today. Going to go get a new belt for it. Starter generator to flywheel. I may have one but I need to organize my belts there everywhere. LOL If anyone has any advice on the deck for this 856 weather to just deal with the wrong one on it. Or if someone wants to trade me for the correct one. I'm in avilla Indiana. It hits the rear tires when raised all the way. It's the wrong one I'm pretty sure. Check out my Facebook I have a video on there I will post my video on my YouTube channel as well.

Nice 856.Number 2 Horse purchased by me like 10 yrs ago was an 856.Still got it in one of my sea boxes.Looks like maybe the deck is the correct one? Maybe rear tires are wrong size, too big? I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong.Have fun with your new toy.

Good find.

Those little Kohler 8s are a great engine.

:text-yeahthat:it seems that deck ought to work.  It's basically the same tractor as my 68 Commando 8, and I have that deck on it.

Deck is correct. Maybe  hung wrong or wrong tires. I put 6-12 Town & Country's on my 857. Looks better IMHO

Mine doesn't have the bar going across the back like yours

That deck is different from the one on my 856. It seems like I have seen pictures of two styles of decks on the 856. I can't say with certainty that mine is original, but I have seen pictures of others with the same deck as mine.

That bar adjusts the height of the wheels on the back of the deck.

The rear discharge decks of that era had the bar. Earlier ones did not. It is the only difference along with the front hanger. That deck is not the reason your tires are hitting.

The rounded 64 deck has the front hanger arrangement of the 62 deck with the shape of the 67 deck and no height adjustment bar. I believe the bar was added in 66 or7

ok so it seems then i may have the correct deck but the tires are to tall/ my daughter 875 the tires are wider and shorter. Does this sound right? Thanks for your information!

Possibly. I’m wondering if you have non WH wheels with the incorrect offset. A Cub Cadet or JD wheel will bolt on but make the tire stick out farther.

I notice your rear wheels have the valve stem on the outside and that would be a clue they are not the original wheels.
