Ronert Canan 2 #1 Posted March 6, 2020 Hello, new to the group... Just finished restoration on a Wheelhorse 607 with a 32” rear discharge deck... Blades (2) are making contact with each other in the center. The blades are 16” long, which makes sense. They obviously shouldn’t touch. These blades overlap by 1/4”. They are 16” blades, there is no such thing as a 15.5” blade??? What the heck
953 nut 55,093 #2 Posted March 6, 2020 The blades on a gear drive deck are supposed to be at ninety degrees to each other. If you remove one of the sindles and turn it to 90 you should be good. 3

Racinbob 11,045 #7 Posted March 7, 2020 There's woodruff keys on the shafts under the domes covers. One or both have been sheared. This is a pretty common occurrence on the gear drive decks and I remember my Dad having to replace them back in the 60's. Inspect the gears and I'm sure you'll see the issue.

ri702bill 8,292 #9 Posted March 7, 2020 (edited) First off, welcome! This sounds like a good opportunity to pull the rotating parts out, check the keys on all 4 gears, grease and reassemble with the blades 90 degrees apart as previously suggested. This is the same principle as the old WW1 aircraft with the machine gun shooting thru the spinning propeller. It's all about the timing - when it goes wrong, the results are similar!
