Chris1055 106 #1 Posted March 5, 2020 Hi guys just wanted to get your guys input. I have a 1974 c160 mechanically flawless tractor . I like the older style hydros. And this style tractor was always on my bucket list. I said I was finished after getting a 875 but I got the hydro fever. I’ll put some pics of my c160 and the 1076 and tell me what you think. On this deal it’s trade only.
Pullstart 62,784 #2 Posted March 5, 2020 Are you letting the plow go with it too? I gotta feelin’ that C-160 is worth much more all around, though I’m with ya on styling!
ebinmaine 67,266 #3 Posted March 5, 2020 IMHO it ISN'T a swap that I would do simply because a c160 is such a BRUTE of a machine. They're bigger, heavier, more capable. Mechanically speaking it just is not apples to apples. Both of them appear to be NICE LOOKING rigs so you're dollar-for-dollar as far as looks go. Again, in my opinion.
Chris1055 106 #4 Posted March 5, 2020 I told him he can have the plow I have more. I was probably going to swap a nice k341 on the 1076 but keep the gen and sheet metal from the k241 so it looks original. I guess my question is. Besides styling how does the older tractors hold up with performance
ebinmaine 67,266 #5 Posted March 5, 2020 Somebody with a lot more experience than me would have to answer the question about performance. I know there were differences with the hydro transmissions back then. Dollars for donuts. Honestly. They just don't match up.
squonk 41,020 #6 Posted March 5, 2020 (edited) You’re talking an older hydrogear to a Sunstrand. Plus no frt. tach-o-matic. If you’re going to work it, stay with the 160 Edited March 5, 2020 by squonk
roadapples 6,983 #7 Posted March 5, 2020 C160 gets my vote, no contest....
12Horse Paladin 1,038 #8 Posted March 5, 2020 I am not an expert. But having said that, id surely keep that 160, especially as a plow rig! It is what i wanted when i was looking...but all i found were too far to make it feasible, for me. Fwiw, i found and got, a Bronco 14 and am excited to use it...but i still want a c160. Someday...goodluck, whatever you do.
Herder 2,354 #9 Posted March 5, 2020 Keep your C160 and buy the other one. Problem solved. C160 is the better workhorse for sure.
Chris1055 106 #10 Posted March 5, 2020 The reason I ask is because trade only no cash. If cash was involved I would have mine plus that. I mostly use short frame tractors for work. The c160 just sits when I need a snowblower

Great to have around for when you need one.
Chris1055 106 #12 Posted March 5, 2020 Ok guys you made my mind up thanks. I’ll keep my c160 I’m sure I’ll find another early hydro at some point. Plus my c160 runs better than it looks. 1

pfrederi 17,663 #14 Posted March 5, 2020 Your 160 has a piston to piston hydro. Somewhat easier to get parts for it than the older Wheelamatic hydro gear. Which WH designated pretty much as repair by replacement
Chris1055 106 #15 Posted March 5, 2020 Thanks everyone for your input. My tractor can stay where it is. Plenty of nice wheel horses in my area all models. I like the fact that I can repair the hydro if need be. It will never see that much use. Also good to know because I’m working on a 875 and I really don’t like the control level without the tension spring.
Pollack Pete 2,273 #16 Posted March 5, 2020 I wouldn,t trade. The 1076 is missing the cigar lighter!
chip61 658 #17 Posted March 6, 2020 I like the older tractors too, but no way I would let go of a C160 Hydro, especially one that looks as good as yours.
Cvans 1,009 #18 Posted March 6, 2020 I think you made an excellent choice. You would have been kicking yourself for years if you'd made that trade. There are plenty of smaller hydro tractors around but your C-160 is a prime piece.
