The guy at the sugar store said a smaller line stays full better and creates a better vacuum. I’m no expert
Cvans 1,009 #27 Posted March 8, 2020 (edited) A guy came by and tapped our sugar maple today. It's going to be fun to see how this goes. What does the Sap taste like? Maple syrup? I never had anything to do with this before. Interesting to see your process in action. Edited March 8, 2020 by Cvans

Syrup is amazing.

Pullstart 62,783 #36 Posted March 13, 2020 While the world looses their minds over T.P. and milk, the syrup show must go on. Since our weekend plans were cancelled I went to the store for fittings to try out a new pump. My buddy’s small booster pump croaked and I have a brand new 1 hp Liberty submersible sump pump with a 2” outlet. I’ll try to use a pump and dump setup to build 80 psi supply to the RO membranes yet allow the pump to not dead head. The top outlet will go to the RO system. The side outlet will dump back into the barrel. I think this is going to be great!
Pullstart 62,783 #37 Posted March 21, 2020 The evaporator has been fired up since Monday Afternoon. Countless gallons of sap have been dumped into the pan and we expect to finish about 8-10 gallons of syrup tomorrow! 1 1 1

Cvans 1,009 #39 Posted March 21, 2020 Heat and stainless just don't get along good together. Spent many years working with stainless in different applications. It's just the nature of the material that it wants to warp over time when subjected to high heat. You'll have to keep an eye on it that it doesn't start tearing and cracking where it's been welded. Stainless cookware is small and formed not welded so it is better able to tolerate heat.
