520H rear down pressure, anyone tried it?

Before I go through the measurements and experiments, was wondering if anyone has ever tried to fab some kind of solid link to apply a bit of down pressure to rear mounted attachments, like a disc, scraper blade, etc...

I think this could be accomplished, but yes it would have to be run under the transaxle and would therefore be a good place to get hung up on things.

Just thinking out loud here, as I just picked up a nice disc harrow and adjustable scraper blade for the 520, and itd be nice to not have to stack weights on either to get them to bite in.

When you use the tractor for down pressure weigh on a rear implement you are applying up pressure to the rear wheels, thereby loosing some of your traction.

Both my Simplicity 9020 and the Allis Chalmers both have 2 way hydraulic cylinders on the rear 3 point and the front mounted snow thrower also uses a 2 way cylinder.

 

In addition the spool valve has a float position for front and rear use. When I'm blowing snow use the float position which allows the cutting edge of the blower to glide over ****** heads.

IMHO, you would have to fan up either an electric actuator or add a separate hydro cylinder and spool valve for rear down pressure unlike the front or mid grader blade down pressure from the single cylinder already on there... Really is just as easy to add weights when needed again JMO after owning a 520 for 22 years.

Im aware of that, but youre right, never considered that adding weight directly to the implement wouldnt affect the weight on rear tires at all. I would also lose 'float'. 

In addition to down pressure, was hoping to increase the overall up/down travel at the hitch. I have a good understanding of linkage/mechanical advantage, etc... and can easily drill new holes, but that little cable is only going to take so much strain, and adding a couple hundred pounds of weight to an attachment is only going to make it worse.

Im wide open to suggestions, fellas:handgestures-thumbup:

I have personally had 100-150# hanging off the rear clevis hitch and NO problems with that little lift cable yet... But maybe add bar or angle across the back out from the fuel tank and add the extra cylinder (electric or hydro) from there to the hitch .

Too add to what I was throwing out there think of the old Sears suburban 3 pt rear hitch but the same principles can be applied here as well...
