Well this is nice, I had the fuel line from the pump to carb leaking bad when I first put gas in it. So I went to the auto parts stores around me looking for the seals. Nobody had them and didn't even know what I was looking for...lol. These new kid's have no clue if the computer doesn't tell them. So yesterday before going to work I placed an order. Today they are here, I like McMaster-Carr.

Just ordered a butt load  of those off fleabay Rod. You need a postage stamp will get you a dozen.

They are  dirt cheap for a quantity so made some other friends too... they are the same seals as used on Harley shovel head oil lines. Another redneck alternative is to use some close to same size windshield wiper wash tubing and use a razor knife to cut to length

Went to try an open up the seat support because it was looking tired and beat down. Plus I'm fabricating up a seat back. That seat spring is tough stuff. I've got 5 ton of force on it and it's holding shape. I had to hit it with almost 6 to get it to move.

Tractor did not have a seat back on it. I like the look of it on those older tractors. I found a piece of spring steel an decided to try and make one up. I put a fuller in the middle to help it flex without taking a bend. I cut a back out of 14 gauge .125 thick steel. Drilled an dimpled the bolt holes. Any suggestions from those that have been there done that? Here are a couple of pic of the progress so far.

That looks really nice!!!  Might be a market for them if you get really into making them.

I'd second that.

I could use an extra wide upper piece....

The seat back is 13 x 7 I didn't know what size they were originally. I wanted something that would be easier on the old back. Still have more work to do on it but coming along nice. I dimpled it deep enough for carriage bolts. Think they look better on the tractor. A couple more pics for you.

Yah sure Dells he's got no other projects going… specially since he's gotta do all his yardwork by hand what with the wheelbarrow shortage these days! :ychain:

Real nice work Rod. :handgestures-thumbupright:

Truth be told I never cared much for those backrests. Picked one up at the BS and put it on a 753. Getting to old to swing my leg over them tho and one time caught the manlies on it. Off she come … the back rest not the jewels... Work around the ranch here requires a lot of hopping on and off tractors! Maybe a short one tho?

Dan @Achto ever get you that parking brake lever dims or is he slackin?!?!? Have to give him a little leeway he's an old man too now ya know!

I got an extra one I could send you but with your fab skills!

I cut one up to start to figure it out, only problem was I had taken tractor apart. Was not sure of the length it needed to be to set the brake band. Truth be told I can't remember ever using a parking brake on any tractor I have had. But being OCD it had one on it, so I have to put one in there or it will bug me.    What's with Dell and the wheelbarrow's, is that what he haul's his loot around in? If he need's more I have a couple taking up space he can have just come an haul them away.

I just like the look of it, but with the older tractors not having floorboards I can see where some short legged gent's may have some trouble..:ychain:

Yeah, Emory got sick of giving dear old dad rides around the property, so Dell’s making himself a motorized cart outta an old wheelbarrow and some tractor tidbits. :handgestures-thumbupright:

That is too kool!!! I admire anyone that thinks like that. But to have the talent to pull it off is something. Most just see it done and don't understand what really goes into something like that. That requires some engineering skills, an imagination and the perseverance to see it to the end. I tip my hat to you Sir!!

@bellevillerod Hopefully these pics will help you out with the parking brake. This is from my 753, for some reason the tang/step on the bottom is either missing or the 753 didn't have one

I made one out of card board first to make sure that I had the right shape when I made the one that I needed.

Thank you for that, it's real close to the steel I cut to try and figure out the shape. So with what you posted for me I just might get there.

Some other ones here Rod. Some had a notch where it engages the brake band some did not. Later sixties ones were step notched for different levels of pedal push and adjustment. I do have a 854 buried in the parts shed if you want to see what an orginal looks like.

Thank you @WHX24 with the great pic's, I see that a new piece of steel will need to be cut. This tractor is starting to be a real fun project. I think that it was rolled off a truck at some point. The steering wheel had a good bend in it and the gas tank looked crooked from the front. What I first thought was just a dented front hood seems to be more. The center gas tank support looks like something real heavy dropped on it. Most metal work I have ever had to do to one of these. Call me crazy but I really enjoy the journey. I've cut, straightened an re welded quite a bit so far.
